Hey folks,
I've been lurking in here for a while but I finally made an account. I found a dealer in Cheyenne, Wyoming that will sell me a new red '18 AWD GT2 for 39k. It's been on their lot since March of '18 and they want to get rid of it. They also have two other GT2s they're trying to get rid of. Thoughts on the vehicle for this price? Anything I should be on the lookout for during the purchase process?
To be honest, I'm concerned about some of the issues I've read about with the car, specifically quality control on the interior with the creeks and rattles and the break pad issues. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for your input!

Hi. The only way to get greatest assurance of a vehicle without any "quality" issues is to make a minute inspection and test drive. If you can't seen any apparent flaws then you've done all that is humanly possible. Later, of course, extraneous noises might intrude: but most cars don't' have any: or else there would be a lot more complaints. I think that Kia's quality is good so the majority of vehicles are pretty much flawless (within the expected range of "nothing in life has any business being perfect", so, don't have unrealistic expectations).

That goes for paint, interior or brakes. Where almost 100% of drivers agree is the driving experience: i.e. the Stinger delivers satisfaction as a driver's dream. And it has Kia's reliability and warranty. That said, I think you can get lower than $39K.

Drive it first. What your eyes and ears tell you is a lot more valuable than what you read online. It sounds like you already know what to check for, so just take it for a spin and trust your senses. Be sure to get a mix of low speed bumps and highway speed cruising on your test drive. Good luck!

@tmjohl Nothing wrong with the 18s, but a car that has been sitting that long on a dealer lot needs to sell for less. You can get a new '19 at that price doing a lease buyout. I would say it should go for closer to 35K.

I agree. I tried to get lower but they wouldn't go there. Values are inflated in the Denver area. The best lease buyout deal I can get on a GT1 is 43k when it's all said and done, which isn't a deal at all. I'll likely just save my money and look at the market again in six months.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
@tmjohl Try I-25kia up in loveland. Last fall they were offered very aggressively to get rid of their 18s. I would assume they would do the same this fall on the 19s.

Should be able to get lease under 41k......I looked nationally before finding my GT2 at 40k

Peak Kia of Littleton may be open to $37,177 on a new 2019 GT1 through lease-to-buy. Do you folks have any thoughts on that program?

@tmjohl Not sure what you mean by lease-to-buy program. If you mean doing the lease buyout immediately after purchase then sure. But if they are trying to talk you into fulfilling the entire lease and then buying at the residual value, then no.

Be aware in Colorado, to do the lease buyout you must go back through a dealership to buy from Kia. You cannot buy directly from Kia on the lease buyout. I am hearing horror stories of dealers charging an additional $500-1000 to collect a check from you and mail it to kia. A balloon loan would be a good work around this if you find a dealership willing to do this as Kia still honors a balloon loan as a lease for incentive purposes.

Well, I changed my mind and I bought the stinger. They wouldn’t go lower than 39 BUT they took my trade for more than anyone else would without anything more than a quick glance so I’d say it evens out. I already ordered the vintage K set and I’m having tint put on this afternoon. Give Kia of Cheyenne a call if you want a deal on a new ‘18. They want them gone.

My only concern about an 18 is that it takes a bit for all the bugs to be worked out in a new car. Of course components of this car have been around under different names for a while.

If the 18 is reliable it is well worth $39 k. On the other hand, it is possible to find GT2 19's for $10k off. I did, although the car had 2 k on the odometer. I paid $41.5 and this car is well worth it. Nappa leather is rare at this price point, and the 3.3 turbo is a fantastic power plant.
