Has anyone tried or thought of putting a lightweight battery to save some space and weight on the trunk?

Anyone know of a lightweight battery that is compatible with the Stinger and what specs will it have to be?

I searched but I have yet to see a thread on this with all the necessary information.

lightweight battery

I wouldn't even think of it...
Consider it the counterweight to the engine - balance is everything.
A properly weighted Stinger is great on the road, just make sure the load cannot shift.:)

In addition, I wouldn't even think of messing around with the battery because of the complaints the OE battery already has, of threatening to discharge at a moment's notice, or without notice. The battery as-is functions close to marginal, from what I can gather. A lighter weight battery would not hold a charge under the high demand this car's systems imposes. That's my opinion, of course.

My goal is not to save weight but so save space.

Interesting information. I figured someone has tried a lightweight battery or there would be one out there that would work for our cars.

save space

LOL, you said "lightweight battery" ...
You are not saying what you would use the eventually gained space for.
Consider the exhausts run past the battery on both sides, so it could possibly get warm there.
Getting to the battery space is also a pain.
Amplifiers and such can be found to fit the existing space.
What was the idea you had?

Sorry I got thrown off by your response.

I'm looking for the opposite, I want a heavier duty battery from Optima or something, but other than jerry-rigging a battery to fit, no one makes a proper aftermarket higher duty cycle/cold crank amp battery so far :(

What do you need more energy for? You running an aftermarket sound system?

I have an EVC exhaust, car wifi and WMI kit sucking extra jucie but havent had any issues

The battery in the Stinger is a race-ready AGM. Stinger's battery specs ? I wouldn't expect some "light weight" replacement to perform as the OE battery.

Longevity/safety factor. I already disable ISG everytime I get in to reduce battery cycling and drain when the alternator isn't running, and there are times I have to wait for people or am using my phone on a call with the system even though the car's already off. Or in other words, there are plenty of times there is electrical usage outside of the engine running. Since I've never owned a Kia, I have zero clue on the quality of their OEM batteries. I've used Optima batteries in all of my cars until this one, lol

ahh got ya. Ya i always disable ISG just because its annoying. I also never use my cars battery outside of it running.

bumping an old thread - anyone find a good option for our cars?

Yeah I've looked into this and a Lithium LiFePO4 battery is really the best bet. I've been looking for one for quite some time, and other than offshore no-name brands, I haven't found too many offerings. Just recently, I found this:

H6 would probably work fine, but because they are so lightweight, I'd probably upsize to the H7:

I'm pretty sure even an H8 might even fit. The only difference between H6/H7/H8 is just the length. Stinger has threaded holes to accommodate different length batts.

I've been running Shorai Lithium LiFePO4 batteries in all my motorcycles for more than 10yrs, and they have worked great. I'd have no problem installed one in my own car.

Nice options, pricey but not ridiculous considering the extended life

My first - and oldest - Shorai is over 10yrs old and still works fine. I've since relegated it to my track bike, but it still holds a good charge and cranks just fine.

Price is about twice that of an AGM, but considering what kind of $$$ Stinger owners seem to be willing to throw at cosmetic upgrades that don't do anything performance-wise, spending $250-300 to shed 40 lbs off the rear end is well worth it, in my book.

Powertex is back in stock middle of next month and they offer military discount so I will wait for one of these!

I'm now seeing all the PowerTex vs. AnitGravity talk on all the other car enthusiast forums no wonder they are sold out..

I've been running a lithium battery in my 3.3 for nearly 3 years now. No issues. It's an Anti Gravity and weighs about 15 pounds, for a savings of about 30lbs in the rear. If you don't think that makes a difference for launch, you are mistaken. :) I'm also so confident in it, that it's going in my 2.5t as I slowly return the 3.3 back to stockish.

Yeah, it's something that a lot of folks have been waiting for. Hopefully, now that they are starting to be offered by more established brands, availability will start to expand... and prices will start to drop.

A caveat... LiFePO4 is very robust and most of these automotive batts come with management circuitry built in. Still, you need to be cognisant of its properties, which are different from a traditional lead-acid.

Imagine what it does for cornering and handling in general.

Are you saying the stock h8 (or h7) weights ~45 lb? I thought it was more than that, ~60lb or so?
