Not sure how many people actually use LKA on “active” mode, but I keep it on. I don’t know why, but especially in the mornings, I have issues with the warning popping up saying that it can’t detect my grip.

I can keep the same grip and same pressure and it detects it for miles, then doesn’t then does again. I’ve had it go off about 10 times in a row within a couple miles. I can be squeezing the hell out of the steering wheel with my entire hand and still goes off. I hold the bottom left of the steering wheel (about 8 o’clock position). I drive home in the afternoon and it doesn’t go off one single time. I’m wondering if it has something to do with the cold.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I think it’s more resistance on the wheel than grip. If the wheel moves too freely it detects you aren’t holding the wheel. I find the active setting very good... certainly as autonomous as I want with radar cruise on at same time!

Yup, it’s looking for you to make inputs not just touching the wheel.

Definitely a bug in the system that Kia needs to tweak. Had this happen a bunch of times on a recent long trip - it kicks in on long straight sections of road where you don't need to turn the wheel. The LKA is doing it's job, you are doing fine, but the warning goes off anyway. I'm sure they will fix it, hopefully it's just a software upgrade.

Me too. I just got back from a 4000 mile road trip and I found that annoying. Hope an update comes out soon.

As others have said, it is not based on you holding the wheel, but more moving the wheel independently. The motor that moves the wheel for you will be monitoring for input from the driver, my sportage has it. Even straight roads will need input from the driver due to wind or resistance.

Ok - I thought there were sensors in the steering wheel itself. I guess not.

This is actually driving me nuts. I have learn to just resist every once in a while but it is really annoying. I am sure it is just a liability issue but the should let us select to turn off the warning.

I don't really experience this...guess I'm actually driving my car. :P
