Hi all,

I have a 2018 GT2 and the famous hatch rattle since around 15k miles (I'm now at 40k miles). I just took it in to the dealer for the 4th time 2 days ago for the same issue (and even the 4th time for the moon roof rattle).

The dealer has done everything KIA stated to do in their pitstop/bulletin plus some more improvisation and nothing has resolved the issue.

I'm now trying to find out if this issue has been resolved in the 2020 model. I might want to sell mine and get the 2020 model if the issue(s) are resolved.

Can anyone comment? My dealer asked his rep if the 2020 model has any improvements for the hatch and all he received was a generic response like KIA always looks to make improvements but literally no elaboration on what area or what type of anything....

Research on this forum indicated to me that the 2019 still had these issues.

Thanks!

I've got the 2020 GT-Line (basically the GT body and features with the 2.0T engine) and with 9400 miles on it, I'm not hearing any rattles from the hatch. But I have some rattles that sound to be from the steering wheel and I couldn't figure out how to fix those.

Mine is a 2019 ZERO rattles or creaks

Knock on wood, but my 2019 is good so far with 11k miles on the clock.

Have had two 2018’s.......base and the current premium with both quiet as a mouse.

Washers fixed my 2019 hatch noise, well worth the $1 from home Depot.

min betting this is from the steering column cover possibly? Or maybe a module behind the dash is loose and is smacking something...

Check the latch assembly. My '18 has too much play which caused it to rattle over bumps. Washers won't help. Adjusting the screw-in rubber thingies won't help. The rattle is internal to the latch assembly. Fortunately, the solution is simple! I cut 1/4" strips of duct tape and wrapped it around the hoop that the latch attaches to when it's closed. That removes the play and the rattles are gone. If you use too much tape, the hatch warning appears on the dash. If so, use a little less.

My first and only gripe so far has been fixed. Check this shit out (see pics). They didn’t put any damn washers or anything to aid in the eliminating that rattle. Not surprised they don’t do it at the factory though. no automatic “fix” is being done unless my 2019 was built on a Monday or a Friday. Installed 3/16” washers between the trunk and those rubber “bumpers.” And I noticed when I shut the trunk it sounded WAY more solid.

So essentially on the inside part of the metal u shaped loop that holds the trunk closed, make sure there is some tape there and then some more on one of the other sides but leave one of the sides exposed so the trunk warning won’t come on? Did I get that right?
Wrap some duct tape strips around that loop. If the hatch open warning shows up on the dash, take a little off. I have three layers on each of the three sides of the loop. There is some exposed metal on the two corners. If I add a fourth layer, the dash warning appears. It's not clear to me if the warning is because of no metal-on-metal contact of if the latch mechanism isn't turning enough to convince the car that the hatch is closed.

it really does go to show you that even $50K sports cars have their issues but minor for sure.

3/16 washers under those upper rubber bumpers and duct tape on trunk latch post...result is zero noise even over rough bumps. Amazing! Kia needs to know about this.

I have not during the sligthly colder weather, with ice in/on my roof window that is "rattles" until the ice melted away.
But in an ice free day i dont hear that rattle.

Uhhh. Kia is. There is a tsb out... and we’ve had this fix in the diy section for like a year.
But glad you got it done.
