KIA Official Press Release (9.26.17)

Good question. Based on a comment from Ralzod in another thread, it looks as if this website is based in California, so I'm assuming it's U.S. pricing.

Ooohh...this car is great for audiophiles...

  • $31,900 for base Stinger 2.0T
  • $37,000 for Stinger Premium 2.0T
  • $39,000 for GT 3.3T
  • $43,500 for GT1 3.3T
  • $49,500 for GT2 3.3T
  • AWD $2,200 for all models
  • Destination $895
Copied from Jalopnik article with info directly from Kia USA.

If you were looking at a 2.0T, not too bad.

If you were in the 3.3T crowd, then likely disappointment with some anger. Topping out at $52,595 before tax, tags and title......yikes.

I read the same article. They were getting their info from the car connection article above. If you read it close it does mention that they are subject to change when they are officially released. That said I doubt they will be any less than what is listed here. Definitely disappointing.

Just saw that the gas tank is 15.9 gallons. That is one gallon less than the capacity of the compact car category Subaru WRX STI and within 0.1 gal of the BMW 340i. With the estimated combined rating of ~21 mpg for the 3.3T, that gives you ~300 miles before you will have to fill up. Even less if you drive mostly in the city.

I guess that long trip comfort comes when you get out to stretch because you have to keep stopping to get gas. The 340i can go over a hundred miles further before a fill up is needed.

Ouch my optima is 18.5 gallons

The price delta between the GT1 trim vs the GT2 trim is $6k.

The GT2 gets the nappa leather, more adjustable seats and safety tech (see chart below). I really wanted the red leather interior, but the GT1 still includes the premium audio, heated seats and V6 that I want......this may be the trim package for me, if available at launch.

Looks like they have gone a slightly different direction than Genesis.

To get a heated a steering wheel on a G80 or G90, you have to get AWD.

For the Stinger, it looks like if you want "rain sensing wipers" then you are getting AWD too.

If it's any consolation, rain sensing wiper systems usually suck.

So I'm going to assume that this is the shift-by-cable shifter:

and this is the shift-by-wire, available only in the GT2:

Ventilated seats only at $49K? Even if I convince myself to do without that beautiful Red Nappa Leather. Even if I decided I didn't really need all of the power that the 3.3T has to offer. Ugh.

So the more I read the angrier I get.

I am not sure if "Dynamic Low Beam Headlight Assist" and "Dynamic Bending Headlights" are different names for the same thing? But I will give them a pass until I have further information.

I also don't see anything about Auto Start/Stop (I might disable it all the time but having a blank button near the shifter is going to p**s me off).

Now on to me being triggered again:
  • NO heated REAR seats listed on any trim level
  • NO 360 surround view camera listed on any trim level (there is a rear view camera with dynamic guideline listed as standard on all trim levels)
  • NO wireless cell phone charging pad on any trim level
All offered on the top trim level for 11k less in Canada. If Kia removed ANY of the three items above from the US model for no discernible reason (other than to screw us [or should I say US] out of more money for less content) they can go f**k themselves and I am out on principle.

Yeah, there are several "let's squeeze them" options. Kind of disappointing. Heads up display only on the GT2 is an example.

That does match what Kia is doing in other ROW markets (only the highest trims have ventilated seats, HUD, HK audio system, etc.). Making me buy all or nothing, probably borders on the greedy side, but it still aligns across the board from market to market.

But to completely eliminate some options entirely for the US market is unacceptable, period.

Yeah I think the GT1 is the best option for me too

I'm with you... if they're making features completely unavailable for the US market and are actually pricing the top tier model higher than the initially floated "under 50k" pricing, this is a bad look. I was willing to deal with the Kia sales and service experience because there was so much content for such an attractive price. This is starting to close the gap between the Stinger and cars like the S5 Sportback.

And the bizarre and arbitrary move to make rain-sensing wipers an AWD only option bothers me too. I understood the heated steering wheel only on AWD thing for the Genesis models - if you need that it's probably so cold where you live that you're probably getting AWD anyway - but this? I live in Florida, it rains like clockwork here, but it never snows, so AWD is useless to me. I want the better system, my BMWs have had it in the past and it works great.

I would say "dynamic low beam" assist means the car automatically toggles the high beams for oncoming traffic, so you can be a considerate driver without all the work of pulling on the high beam lever. And "dynamic bending headlights" would be the headlights with servos for the projector so that it follows the path of your curve when turning.
