Hey guys,
First post here. Just installed JB4 with Bluetooth kit and fuel wire adapters. Everything seems to be installed correctly (I doubled checked each step). The app connects on my phone, all my gauges seem to be working in the app, so I thought I was all good. Then I started testing maps.... I don't have upgraded plugs yet, so I'm trying to be super safe and only tried to compare map 0 and map 8 (valet). The weird thing is that map 8 doesn't feel noticeably different than map 0. Max boost is somewhere around 15 psi in both maps, and the car pulls about the same in both maps (both feel about the same as stock). That can't be right can it?

Then I got a little curious and tried map 1, which also felt about the same as map 0 and map 8! I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Set the jb4 app to auto log at 80% throttle, then do a couple WOT pulls each on the different maps from say 20MPH up to 80MPH (do it safely please). Then post the csv file (NOT the graph, can't really get all the parameters in the graph.).
Unfortunately, since you are new to the forum, you probably can't attach the csv file yet, you can DM me the file though.

Will do. I have a couple logs from today I can send (map 0 and map 1). Looked like max boost in map 1 was only about 1 psi higher than map 0.
However, after some more testing, I have to say map 1 does feel like it pulls a little harder than map 0, so maybe I was mistaken in my initial reaction.

Thanks for the response!

The logs will show all the boost parameters, including what the ECU is asking and what the jb4 is adding.
Butt dyno can be misleading.

you're right, I can't attach csv files here. new to the forum and having trouble with DMs. I go to conversations (envelope icon), but can't figure out how to send a new message. sorry i guess i'm dumb. can anybody help?

DM’ed you.

You should see columns titled "ecu_psi", "target", and "boost" next to one another. The first is what the car thinks it's calling for, the second is what the JB4 is adding (varies by map), and the third is the actual total boost. This should let you know whether it's the car itself reducing boost (e.g. limp mode), the JB4 doing it, or maybe a leak or something.

If you'd like to learn more about the logs while you're waiting for upload abilities, here's a quick writeup I did, which also links to BMS's guide:

thanks! i see the logs showing about 2.5-3.5 target (increase boost) in map 1 so that's pretty good, right? Still waiting to get ability to send csv files. will do that when i can.

Sounds reasonable, below is BMS's guide. You're seeing the ECU call for 12ish psi and peaking around 16 total?

Map 0: JB4 disabled
Map 1: 4psi over stock peak tapering to 2.5psi at high RPM. Default performance map suitable for all 91+ octane fuels.
Map 2: 5psi over stock tapering to 4psi at high RPM. Suggested for 93+ octane fuel.

Map 3: 6psi stock tapering to 5psi at high RPM. Suggested for high quality fuel including unleaded race gas, ethanol mixtures up to 30%, or high quality octane booster like Torco or Boostane.
Map 4: Up to 7psi over stock. For use with unleaded race fuel and/or E85 mixtures up to 30%.
Map 5: Up to 7psi over stock but without top end taper. For unleaded race fuel use and bolt on modifications. May not be suitable for E85 mixtures due to high fuel pressure dropping. If using this map on E85 you should be experienced at reading your own logs and evaluating ignition advance and fuel pressure.
Map 6: User adjustable map. Enter value of boost over stock by RPM on user adjustment page.
Map 7: Progressive WMI (water/meth) map. Increases boost as a function of methanol flow & methanol boost additive. Holds boost low until WMI is flowing to avoid tip-in knock, and reduces boost as a function of WMI flow in the event of interruption like running out of fluid, leak, or component failure.
Map 8: Valet map, runs around half as much boost as stock.

yeah that's about what I'm seeing, my ECU psi creeps up to 14 psi in 3rd gear around 4800 rpm, and boost is about 16.5.
I think I'm good. getting spark plugs next week, can't wait to try map 2. thanks for the info!

Running E30 on map 3 or 4 is the real difference. I thought map 1 was pretty mild, but the first time I tried map 3 it was really noticeable.
Going CPI on E50 or so or WMI on higher maps starts to get insane.
At the track, stock I was running mid 13’s, now with a Lozic TCU and WMI my best time is 11.7 in the quarter mile.

very nice! i know i won't be able to resist trying map 3 on E30 in the near future.

would i need any other mods to safely run map 4 on E30? i'll just have intakes and plugs.

No problem running map 3 or 4. To get E30, start with your tank maybe 2/3 to 3/4 full with preferably 93 octane pump gas (if available, here in California we only get 91), then top off with quality E85.
It gets a little more complicated when you refill if you don’t run the tank down to empty, to help with that you can install the flex fuel kit from fuel-it.com, it’s pretty easy to install.

appreciate the help! if i'm ever unsure of the exact mix, is it safer to use a little too much E85, or too little E85?

You should err on the side of less E85 because too high of a mix can cause the hpfp to “crash” and go into a too lean scenario and possible limp mode.
You can tell this in the logs if the trims parameter stays too high (like near 50)

You don't need to run the tank down or get a flex kit if you're not running tunes that require ethanol mixes near the limit. You have a big margin of error -- "E30" is just a guideline that gets you most of the benefits of higher octane and cooler temps while staying within fueling limits.

4-6 gallons of E85 per tank is the recommendation, so as a rule of thumb you can add 1.25 gallons per quarter tank, then the rest premium. IE if you're filling up from half full, do 2.5 gallons of E85 and the rest 93. That should put you somewhere around 98 octane, and you can work your way up the maps and check logs to make sure you're not pushing the envelope.

Update: got my Denso plugs installed this week and tested map 2. everything seems good so far. max boost hits almost 20 psi. next test will be E30 and map 3!
