Thanks for the great info.
Good to know, can you provide a link where that was published?according to the 2018 testing/development of the d-awd, Kia presentation basically explained the awd system as such. comfort static baseline is 40:60 but can change within it's large thresholds of 50:50 to 10:90 .. it's just as you change the modes, the static baseline goes more rwd with thresholds become smaller and doesn't allow the car to send more than the threshold of power to the front axle
was biermanns presentation i think when the gts was being developed.. Sharper Stinger: Testing Kia's upcoming performance-tuned AWD obviously non gts/indigo versions don't have the "drift" mode or the sport+ settings other countries got, the principal is the same.Good to know, can you provide a link where that was published?
Not sure, the "D-AWD" is supposedly a function of having a LSD, which only the top models for the Stinger get(?). This article doesn't seem to fully line up with what actually made it into production for North America from my current understanding. In other words, I'm not sure everything they speculated and tested that was noted in this article came to fruition come time to actually make the Stinger. But I'm admittedly out of touch now on the details having gone deep 13 months ago when shopping the car but not much since.was biermanns presentation i think when the gts was being developed.. the awd system for the indigo and gts special edition did get the extra 7:93 bias thresholds along with the lsd with awd. but comfort/sport biases wouldn't have changed, other countries get sport+. Mechanically the awd system and computer are the same (minus the lsd and some stability/traction control calibration)Not sure, the "D-AWD" is supposedly a function of having a LSD (Limited Slip Differential), which only the top models for the Stinger get(?). The stock tires options are VERY region specific... eg here in Canada, we only get the AWD version, and we get Pilot Sport 4 tires... (which are 100% summer, and pretty sketch under 10C/50F)Hey OP, not to talk you out of winter tires and not sure if you have an AWD or RWD GT (if you know you need them, then get them), but this is my first winter with an AWD Stinger and I've been SUPER impressed so far with the AWD system and the stock A/S tires. I think the RWD Stingers came with summer/performance tire? Whereas my AWD GT2 came with all-season tires (Michelin Primacy Tour A/S).
Regardless, I live in the upper Midwest. We just got 20+ inches of snow a couple weekends ago and my Stinger was an absolute BEAST. Very planted, throttle inputs weren't scary, even with plowing snow with the front end no traction issues. I've lived in the upper Midwest my entire life, and have never needed snow tires. I know some live in areas where they absolutely need them (example being mountains, you mentioned a ski resort). But just my 2 cents on the abilities of the AWD system and stock A/S tires in significant snow and ice so far. I was going to look into some snow tires but since it handles so well with the stock tires, no need here.
Post up some pics when you get it!!Thanks for the input. The tires on the Stinger are almost done and would not be very good here. Being on the southwest tip of Georgian Bay means we are always getting squalls coming in off the bay which results in some very slippery conditions. I also get a break on my insurance because I use snows. I pick up the car on Thursday and will have new tires on the same day. Thanks again. Gary.
For real? I've never heard of that. I've been using snow tires on my cars for years. What insurance company is that?I also get a break on my insurance because I use snows.
pretty common up here... it's a small savings, but better the money in my pocket than theirs! (IIRC I save $50/year)For real? I've never heard of that. I've been using snow tires on my cars for years. What insurance company is that?
It may be an "Ontario" thing ... regardless of insurance company, we get a 5% break on our rates if we use winter tires, as long as they have the "mountain & snowflake" symbol on them. Next door in Quebec, snow tires are mandatory ... but not in Ontario yet... just incentivized with a break on your insurance rate. For real? I've never heard of that. What's your custom setup? Mine is sport for engine transmission (I want those baffles open), and comfort/eco for everything else.plus I do a custom drive mode for winter
Mine is comfort for AWD (40/60 split) Eco for Eng/trans (slow power delivery - no wheel spin, hard downshifts ) and Sport for suspension (I want to feel everything)What's your custom setup? Mine is sport for engine transmission (I want those baffles open), and comfort/eco for everything else.
Hey, why did you drop the "1" and end up with two forum accounts? Just curious what caused that.I picked up my 2018 Stinger GT on Monday. Best late Christmas present I have ever gotten. I now have the hottest looking car on the street according to my neighbours. I'm not sure what mods I am going to do in the future but I have already had it treated with corrosion free and I will be getting some winter tires on Monday. In the spring the interior and engine compartment will need a good cleaning and there are a few small areas that could use some touch up. Thanks to all for the good advice. Gary.
