I went into the local Kia dealer and spent awhile talking with the salesman about the GT2. He offered a drive in the base version Stinger immediately, but to test drive the GT2, he said they only had one in stock (and not the color I wanted), but if I would do a credit check, I could test it. I said no problem, and we discussed the fact that next week he expected delivery of the GT2 in red that I wanted. So I just said, call me when it comes in and I'll come back by. Lo and behold as I walked out the door, here comes the truck with a red GT2. Took bit to get the car off truck, do the dealer inspection, and boom.....test drive. When we got to talking numbers, they wanted to add on a $7500 premium fee since there is limited availability right now.

I offered to then just either wait for a few months for more availability, or go 45 miles up the road where that dealer had a GT2 in red right now. So the discussion was it's such a popular car, and (supposedly) every dealer was adding that fee (which I've seen with Audi, BMW and other dealers before). I mentioned, yes it's so popular that the line behind me of qualified buyers, with lots of cash was exactly one deep. "Sell it today or hope someone comes tomorrow?"

Sold. Drove out an hour and a half later with a GT2 and a full tank of gas.

This is a great story, @Tvshooter! Way to haggle those keys into your hands! So what did you end up paying out the door? Congratulations!! What did the Stinger replace?

By the way, welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up...

So did you pay the fee or not? :)

There's that "credit check to test drive" thing again. What is Kia doing? Anyway, CONGRATS on the car and a deal well-struck.
Yes, but this time the story changed a little bit. The requirement for a credit check wasn't for the 2.0T but the GT... Interesting...

This story gives me hope.

A credit check on the 2.0T? LOL I wouldn't even say goodbye before I walked out.

The dealer near me *knew* I wasn't going to buy the one he had (not my color), but he said "Well, go put four or five miles on it."

Anyways, congrats on the purchase and way to talk down that unnecessary markup.

Oh, no, it was "not" on the 2.0T. The credit check was for the Stinger GT... Still not exactly clear on WHY but...

Since Tvshooter hasnt indicated a price, to give you all some hope, I paid $46,000 for my GT2, with getting $11,200 for my Optima which was about $400 under "excellent" condition KBB. All the dealers around me were doing the dealer add. Almost all of them, once I said I wasnt even going to pay MSRP, knocked the market adjustment off. I just emailed between 3-4 dealers and pitted them against each other until I got the deal I wanted. No way these sell for over MSRP. Just plug away and you will get one at a price you want. Just be patient.

So the final price was 46k before the trade in, right? If so. That's a great deal!

Correct. Another dealer was trying to sell me a GT1 with the drive wise package for $47,500. Decided to go with the GT2 for $1500 less :)
That's great. You have the perfect user name! Ha.

What was the MSRP on yours including destination? Was it RWD or AWD, any add-ons?
