what about driving it bone stock for a few months to know what the car's about and let any niggling warranty problems shake out BEFORE doing all this?

Enjoy. A tune will surely increase your smiles per gallon (or "smiles per litre" for you down under folks).

Bored is one thing. Blowing up your extensive warranty coverage is another thing.

Just don't install anything you can't easily remove down the road if needed.

Nothing is undiscoverable when a huge warranty claim is on the table.

No traces are left behind by the JB4 but also encourage customers to pay for any damage they cause operating the vehicle outside of factory specifications. The dealership could always subpoena your credit card statements and forum posts if it turned in to a big legal battle. So plan ahead accordingly.

The good news is the JB4 provides a lot of extra safety systems so it's unlikely anything will happen unless you really go nuts on the mapping end, or have a factory defective turbo or something.

...other than circumstantial evidence that the machine was operated way beyond factory limits.

Remember, the factory pays for warranty claims with which they agree. If they don't agree...you're on the hook. What are you going to do, sue them for denying a claim?

And some things are just so self-evident, on top of the factory rep having all sorts of incentives not to pay for a new engine, for example.

Exactly so--which is something one should be aware of should he plan to take his 10 mile on the clock Stinger and start tuning it. Letting thing settle in, and letting factory defects reveal themselves, might be a good idea before thrashing it.

I will just sell for parts if that happens, maybe turn the motor into a coffee table etc

That's all very well, but I was really addressing the OP.
