Jerky automatic transmission shifting

Speed limiter on the staggered wheel set-up Stinger is 276 km/h (170+ mph). Good luck with the race if you are in a Miata. The only Stingers with the lower limit are ones equipped with the shitty grade all-season tires (there are all-seasons that can handle the higher speeds). Even with this more restrictive limiter, a Miata stands zero chance.

Just so you know, I think Miata's are great--one of the best and most fun toss-able cars available. But speed (acceleration or top speed) is not what they are about.

When I was researching before buying my stinger I searched for a rwd model and none New Jersey north. I am near Boston. Pretty sure nearly every stinger around here who hasn’t voided their warranty is speed limited.

Not that I have plans. I never raced anyone in my stinger. I drove too fast for sure. Way too fast. Especially on the highway. In the Miata it will be too fast on the twisty roads. Fortunately I live far enough from the city. Plenty of rural roads for fun near me

Well boys and girls. It was nice knowing you. I was a Stinger Own for a whole month. I am going out this weekend to trade it in for.. whatever is not a Kia. Kia is dead to me as a brand. Never again.

sorry you had a bad experience with the transmission.. i know how an experience like that can sour the whole brand... my friend and coworker will probably never own another bmw after his 2013 528i transmission would keep going to neutral and his engine would shut down randomly on accelerating from a stop... after the 3rd time it did it and just died and had to be towed off the road until it would restart since it was then stuck in park once it died and he couldn't get it into neutral without starting the car(therer is a way without the engine running to get the trans into neutral but he didn't know it at the time)
in a 4 lane highway intersection with is kid in the car he traded it that day for a infiniti suv...

anyway, all that said hope you have better luck!

Oh, and I can't wait to see how many thousands of dollars I will loose trading a car that I just bought... This stinks. And what car can replace the Stinger? The Stinger is everything I wanted, but its broken. I wish I could just pay some to fix it but then that would probably void the "warranty". I can't bring myself to give Kia a dime not to mention they would probably charge a fortune for a new transmission anyways. I have no idea what to do really.

if the transmission is bad and still under warranty, you should be getting a new transmission ... are they refusing to honor the warranty?

Kia will take it into the shop and keep it for a week, They only put 1 mile on the odometer and then give it back, after a week and say there is nothing wrong. They say they will only warranty a problem if they can observe it at the shop. Hard to fight when they hold their ground on this policy.

I don't know maybe try a different Kia dealer? I had a VW with a creaky sunroof dealer A said they couldn't hear it and dealer B said oh that's really bad we'll get on that right away

I think if you are a good negotiator then you will lose 2K on the trade in then when you buy another car you'll pay at least 2K. If you are not a good negotiator then it will cost you even more. I really would try another dealer. I didn't trade my car in because of the shifting. It's just cause I am crazy and get tired of my toys. The shifting was a very minor annoyance. Your issue sounds much worse

Most of the time my automatic transmission shifts very smoothly when in D mode. However occasionally the shifts are unpleasantly jerky. I haven't been able to figure out what exactly triggers it, there is no consistency in the behavior, except that it mostly happens under light acceleration (on the contrary when accelerating hard the shift are smooth, quick and nice). It also seems to happen a bit more often with cold engine.

Did anyone else notice anything similar? This happens quite rarely so I am hesitant yet to drive to my dealership since I (they) may not be able to reproduce it easily.

(This is 3.3 GT AWD in ECO mode).
Hello, Were you able to solve this issue? I recently bought the stinger and same thing happened to me with cold engine. It would be great if you could share the solution. Thanks!

So basically guys ... the fix ..... a reset of "data" of transmission so it can re-learn your behaviour right ?

Drained the Transmission fluid pan today and filled with Valvoline Max life Full Synthetic ATF. I can already feel the transmission shifting much smoother, particularly in Sport Mode. I would suggest everyone having jerky transmission issues to replace the fluid. Works like a charm.

And how many K did you have on the drained fluid?

I’m not even half way there yet so I’ll put the idea on the back burner for awhile. Cheers
I should have done it at 40K though because ive been pushing the car, so between 40-50 is probably a good range to do it.

Ya I see you’re modded up pretty good so I understand the “pushing”.

Hello everyone. I am writing to you from France. Since there are not many Stinger users in Europe, I am visiting American forums. I also have the problem with gear shifting. A mechanic I spoke to recently is sure that the problem is the reducer. What do you think about this?

Do you mean the torque converter?
