Hi everyone,

I just got a 2021 Stinger GT1 AWD and I'm sitting at 30k miles and completely stock. I'm looking to purchase the JB4 with Bluetooth and am seeing many posts about spark plugs so I have a few clarifying questions, but will provide some details 1st.

To tame your expectations, I'm an elementary principal that has no plans to track or race the Stinger. However, I do have a 45 min (one-way) commute on the interstate 5 days a week so I'd like to have power available when needed and for fun. I anticipate not needing anything above map 3, maybe even map 2.

Only future plans are a CAI sometime down the road.

Here are my questions:

1. I read that anything above map 0, new plugs are recommended with the gap ranging from .20 to .26. In my instance, or someone wanting flexibility between map 0 and map 2-3ish...what plugs are recommended? I see the Denso/HKS debate but want flexibility.

2. Speaking of plugs is this something the dealer can replace for me if I buy the plugs? Again, 20 year educator here, I don't have the knowledge of some of you here.

3. Do I gap these myself or would the dealer? Does that set me off an a person with a tuner car, even if the JB4 isn't installed yet? I have no clue how to gap them. Hoping this isn't a stupid question.

4. I'm eyeing a used JB4 with the Bluetooth module. Will I need to add the fuel wires as well?

5. I had a tuner in my WRX, but that was just a plug into the OB port. Hoping I can handle the install. Tips welcome.

6. Please let me know what I'm missing. Like do I have new wires installed with new plugs???

Thank you for any help you can give!

Dave

Yes plugs are recommended, Denso or HKS will work for any of the maps, and most recommendations say .022". You can gap them yourself with a tool (I think the JB4 450 kit comes with one), or just gently tapping them on something flat.

If you have a dealer do it, you're going to pay a bit of a premium and they'll almost certainly know you're tuning it. My recommendation would be to watch the below youtube video and see how you feel about tackling it yourself. I think it's a pretty straightforward job for an amateur car guy, maybe 25 minutes of actual work so call it an hour if you're taking your time figuring things out, two hours if you're doing intakes and the JB4 at the same time:

The middle passenger side plug is the "challenge", but with a swivel spark plug socket and one additional swivel, it really wasn't bad. I started with that one so if I got stuck I wouldn't be half done, and the rest of the plugs took a few minutes each.

this. it really isn't that bad if you have fairly nimble fingers. Start with #5 (you have to remove the coils off 4 and 6 to make it easier, but you can wait on the plugs until you're done with #5) and the rest is an easy downhill.

Thank you for the replies. I ordered the HKS plugs and will have a shop install them. I watched the video and I'd spend more buying the tools than just paying to have it done at the 30k service.

Will I need to purchase the fuel wires to go along with the JB4?

+1 for the HKS plugs....stay away from Denso's imo. I believe BMS recommends gapping the plugs down to .022. Make sure you do this with the proper spark plug gapping tool as you could potentially damage the plug.

I would recommend getting the fuel wires. It gives the JB4 more control and you'll make more power with them.

Would that be the PNP fuel wire adapter or is it the EWG add on connector?

Or am I needing both those items?

I believe the newer jb4 comes with fuel wires already. The fuel wire adapters allow you to install them without tapping into the factory wiring. They're essentially jumper harnesses to go between the factory wiring and the o2 sensor connector. You can install the fuel wires without them but if you ever have to remove the jb4 then it will leave a hole in the factory wiring where the positap was installed.

The ewg wires aren't really needed unless you are over boosting.

I would also recommend the wireless mobile kit so you can connect to it with your phone through the jb4 app.

Thank you! That helps a ton. Sounds like an easier install with them and nothing left behind when you remove it.
