I’m planning on purchasing the jb4 with Bluetooth and the denso plugs and fuel wire adapters. I have done these mods so far Borla catback with ark secondary midpipes, injen cai, snorkel intakes, hks bovs, and dual oil catch cans. Right now in sport mode with pedal to floor i get to about 80 and I’m guessing I’m overboosting cause it’s like it shuts down. I guess my question is will this continue with the jb4 in maps 1 and 2 with 93 octane. Been reading in forums that the secondary mid pipes may be causing this? Just don’t want to get this and not even be able to go full throttle. Any input appreciated. Thanks guys!!

+1 need EWG connections and FF = 40 settings for exhaust over boosting.

I would recommend the HKS plugs over the Densos, they just seem a little bit better. I was running into some overboost issues also, getting the JB4 with EWG (along with fuel wires, of course) and getting the FF dialed in will square you away. I am running Map 2 on 91 with the FF adjusted appropriately for my car and it is good to go. 93 on Map 2 or 3 with the settings squared away will be great.

Ok will do hks gapped at .22 as well.

Apologies for the thread hijack, but this is somewhat on-topic...

The HKS were sold out at the Stinger Shop and I couldn't find them in stock for what seemed like sane prices out there on the interwebs, so I went with Densos just to meet what seems to be an acceptable quality bar in prep for a JB4 I have on the way. I haven't installed the Densos yet, but posts like the above make me wonder...

First, consider that I am someone who probably won't be running more than 92 Octane (and thus Map 1 or *maybe* Map 2) at this time. I might play around with fuel additives if I decide to go nuts, but the reality is my wife also drives my car now and then and I don't want the car to be caught unawares so to speak (lacking necessary Octane in the tank should she decide to fill it up at Costco and then have a little fun in Sport mode). To that end...

1. Why are the Densos sold as an alternative to the HKS if they are problematic (in any way)

2. What does "a little bit better" (at 2x the price) mean to a guy like me (92 Octane, Map 1-2)?

In the grand scheme of things, I fully acknowledge that an extra $60~$90 spent across 6 spark plugs (delta between HKS and Densos) is vastly cheaper than even the diagnosis bill for any kind of engine repair that comes from a plug not doing its job in the worst case, but "a little bit better" is an odd way to phrase it if that's really what we're looking at.

If it's really meant as, "Densos just mean you can't reliably run Map 3 w/ 93 Octane" then maybe I (and those like me) have nothing to worry about?

Ok so don’t gap the plugs to .22 or .24 with jb4. What do they come at out of box?

I’ve gapped HKS plugs with proper tools. They were at .030 and gapped them at .022

Buy the plugs at K8Stingerstore.

I would definitely recommend gapping them to the proper .22
They may be "fine" out of the box but with a good tuner gapping tool are very easy to gap . Also if your going to spend the extra 90 bucks over 6 plugs and the time to change them wouldn't you want them done correctly. The HKS will last at least 3x to 4x longer if installed and gapped correctly.

With all the cost of everything else we put in and on our cars 150 bucks for the best spark plug is minor.

My 2 cents

I have the hks plugs but haven’t pulled the trigger on the jb4 yet… is it ok to change out the plugs and gap at .22 without the jb4? I have injen cai snorkel intakes bov’s dual catch can ark mid pipes with Borla exhaust??

No need to gap hks plugs. Good to go out the box.

I have the densos. running map 7 with WMI. no issues here. plugs have probably 6k miles on them. will probably run them until say 12k or if I start to see timing issues on the logs. If they were horrible, Terry wouldn't sell them.

I figured as much... even so, I sort of talked myself into "upgrading" to HKS a little bit ag. I purchased them via the K8StingerStore, which seemingly has them in stock. (I bought the Densos via Amazon, so that made returns quick and easy -- I'll drop them off at Whole Foods the next time I'm down there).

I also ordered the BMS gapper tool, because I'm a measure-twice-cut-once kind of guy. And I ordered the EWG wires while I was at it, since I bought the JB4 second-hand and figured I should establish some level of meaningful customer relationship with BMS if I'm going to be benefiting from their advice and their tech with regard to tuning.

Never buy spark plugs from Amazon. Lots of counterfeit products there.

The ones I received are either genuine or they are impeccably wrought fakes. But i'll be returning them anyway.

Have we seen actual (anecdotal) evidence of people actually counterfeiting spark plugs, or is this just a general cautionary statement?
