Pinched this photo from another thread so I hope that’s kosher. Are the RH tires supposed to distort that much? I appreciate the car is cornering at high speed but they look like they’re about to come off the rim. The front rim looks like it’s about 2mm from digging into the track.
I’m not really sure what a sculpted edge is but to me the tire looks like it’s about to come away from the rim. I was questioning whether they are supposed to distort that much.
If anything shows why AWD out of the whole beats the RWD guys this doesTires do weird stuff when captured in pictures or slow motion videos.
Just do a Google search for "slow motion race tires" or something like that. You'll see some weird looking tires for sure.
Here's one:

Amen! The high aspect ratio places the rim right down near the bottom of the curb, dammit! I had too many horrible encounters with my front rims before I learned the dimensions of this car. I still use ALL of my attention/brain power when parking. I'm not rashing my rims again. Driving, however, I'm fine. Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires augment my "superpowers" that I don when I get into my Stinger.Welcome to low profile tires , they do get close to the road and thats one of the reasons why the cars handle so much better vs Traditional sidewall depth BUT they are delicate relative to pot holes , road debris and curbs . If you've never had them before you might need to adjust driving AND Parking protocols .

Problem is they are made out of rubber and rubber gives when a 4,000 pound car rubs a curb that does not move.‘Sculpted edge’ is an extra ‘bead’ they put on some tires so that your ‘bead’ is the first to touch a curb and not your rim.

Without the bead, the rims would take the full brunt of an encounter with a curb. I shudder to imagine what my rims would look like after my "adventures" in parking during those first few weeks, if my tires did not have that bead.Problem is they are made out of rubber and rubber gives when a 4,000 pound car rubs a curb that does not move.
