Is there anyway to get more power without significantly increasing noise?

So I know that more air = more noise, being that air is the medium in which sound travels. Especially when you take into account intakes. headers, high flow cats, exhausts, etc.. My 350z was pretty quiet stock, and loud AF when I did all these breathing mods.

That being said, the Stinger is now my family car. So I want to have fun on track days (moderately more power) but I want the wife/kids to go to sleep or I will put them to sleep. It's hard to do that when every air mod on the planet is saying Hi to you, even at casual driving.

So my question is, what mods (or even brands) are known to help increase power but aren't the noisiest to do so. Unless they are marvels of engineering, this probably means less power, which I'm fine with, as long as the power increase is noticeable and I'm not now just wasting my money. I care only about startup (hot/cold), gentle acceleration, and casual driving. I only play ridge racer when I am alone in the car, so idgaf about the noise then.

thanks yall. Right now my 2019 Stinger GT AWD (3.3TT) is stock.

JB4 and one of the milder exhaust options (magnaflow for example) or a valved one is your best best... BOV and intakes will add more noise than power plus with the JB4 you set it to map0 (stock) for day to day duties and dial it up for track days or solo trips...

So the true CAI, the ones from SSR Performance that cost $629, they don't add alot of power?

Curious, JB4, that just tunes the engine harder right? I would need those densio spark plugs too

Correct on the JB4

Heat soak is the biggest problem with CAI's I've even seen tests of drop in filters that don't breathe as well as the stock filters

I have K&N drop filters in if that matters. How about those JA/Big mouth scoops? They seem like they would only help when at high speeds/RPMs, which is when the kids aren't going to be in the car.

As for Jb4, map2 on track days, map0 during normal driving days? Can I keep it say at map1 24/7? What impacts are there to engine longevity? And will it void a wtty claim?

You can daily drive any map. Map only activates if you’re under boost anyway. Doubt you’ll be 100% throttle with traffic .

dont get an intake if you want to stay quiet. Unless you like your s/o asking why it sounds like a vacuum and what are those whooshy sounds

Stock intakes usually incorporate a significant amount of silencing. Aftermarket intakes, especially for turbo cars, generally do nothing, unless you've put a much bigger turbo on the car and need to flow a lot (not just a bit) more air, which requires bigger intercooler, bigger injectors, higher pressure pump, etc. In other words, bigger intake is almost never needed for more power and it's one of the biggest sources of noise.

can't you just run a JB4 on map 2, with nothing but better plugs installed? Big power increase. Honestly adding an intake like the BMS intake is not crazy noisy unless you are hammering it. JB4 and a BMS intake and plugs and you're done. Will drive around sounding just about like stock, but good power increase.

Apparently in another thread there is this tuner named Loriz that will get you alot more hp/tq then jb4

Good point. you might mean Lozic though. Just get an ECU tune from Lozic and leave everything else stock. (except plugs) you'll be jammin! I kind of think the JB4 is a bit safer though and it's less expensive. Not quite as much power but still great. JB4 has been running with the stinger a lot longer too. Lozic reviews are great so far it seems. Good to have options.

Yeah it is, im just wondering how forcing that much more air and pressure is good for it term

Hey curious, if I get a JB4/Lozic, should I get a big scoop too? You would think all that boost needs to have more air

Turbo cars are not really restricted in this way. At some point, yes you need more airflow, but this is generally well past what the stock turbo(s) could ever deliver. This comes up all the time with almost all turbo cars. It's generally far more beneficial to open up the exhaust side, downpipe, cat deletion, exhaust in general.

gotcha. And those are $$$. In my younger days I'd be getting quotes and writing checks. Now its 529s and house updates ughhhh

My SO likes fun cars but she isn't a gearhead so she didn't understand why the intakes had to be so loud, but also why did it make the car so much more responsive? She got it when I showed her the turbine inlet then compared the BMS intake vs. the original airbox and has grown to like hearing the turbines spool. I haven't the heart to break it to her that some of the exhaust note she hears in the driver's seat is produced by the head unit and that even Audis do that these days because the sound deadening is so effective and it makes the cars more marketable to people who think louder engine = better performing when in truth sound results from wasted energy.

I have scoops, drop in filters, Lozic ECU , and JB4 so I can log and watch the parameters while driving. Otherwise just stock intakes and exhaust. It’s quiet and quick. Pretty much how I wanted it. And my wife never says anything or complains when she drives it.

Do the scoops (I assume JA, Big Mouth etc..) actually help at all?

I thought noise is a good thing? I like noise... I find my Stinger too quiet even with my Borla catback if I'm being honest...
