Hi Darren,

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. You have a good question there. Has anyone heard anything about the Stinger being sold in Singapore?

Darren, are there any similar vehicles being sold there now?

Yes we do... we have an agent selling KIA cars.

Thank you for the update, @Darren HK. Well, at least is sounds like they're heading your way. The price will be high at first - but will eventually come down. Same as here and probably everywhere...

Ha, no no, it's not the same in Singapore than anywhere else in the world. The price is high at launch and will always remain high.

The price @Darren HK mentioned was 210,000SGD which is about 158,000 USD for a 3.3TT model.

The best part of that price is - you can only drive the car for 10 years!!

$158,000 is a tad bit more than I'd want to spend. :o Why do you only get to drive the car for ten years?

That’s about right! You intending to get one? There’s a ‘preview’ on the 9th of Jan and the official launch is supposed to be at the motor show mid Jan from what i’ve heard.

In Singapore, whenever you buy a car you have to purchase a certificate which is valid for 10 years and is renewable provided you can afford or want to pay the bidded pricing. Currently the certificate price for a 2.0L car is between SGD$45,000 to $50,000. In addition we have high import taxes and duties, with a new levy which just started this year, based on the amount of emissions each and every vehicle produces. There are also taxes on non-standard add ons, at almost two times per dollar cost of the add on. Probably the reason why our Stingers and GTs don’t come with the Drive Wise package, but with wireless charging, sunroofs, cooled/heated seats, black suede headliner, HUD and 8” screens.

So you need to pay a large fee after ten years of, more or less, renting your car... When the certificate expires, if you don't want to pay the price, you return the car to the dealership?

At the end of 10 years you have a choice of renewing the certificate for another 5 or 10 years, at the prevailing bid amount, or if the car gets scrapped, you get back half of the original market value from the Land Transport Authority. You could also sell the car and the buyer would then have to deal with the certificate renewal. The cert is essentially paying for the right to own a car.

All of this is to keep the traffic level in Singapore low, in which I think they certainly have achieved the goal.

It's just crazy to think, you can buy 3 Stinger GT2 in the US for the price of one in Singapore.
