Is rebedding good enough?

Hey everyone. I'm sure this has been covered somewhere in here but I can't find anything definitive. I have 11K on the car and I'm starting to get some vibration under high speed breaking. I'm ordering the Girodisk magic pads from Khartunerz. My question is can I just do a proper bedding of the Girodisk pads to remove the deposits without having the rotors resurfaced? I know people have said they've rebed the OEM pads and that solves the problem temporarily but it quickly returns. If I properly bed the Girodisk pads and burn off the deposits then theoretically it should solve the pulsing problem for good correct? I'm not interested in a dealer visit and I'm trying to get some longer life out of the OEM rotors before I go aftermarket. Any help is appreciated!
 
It depends.

If the deposits are light enough that the force of bedding in the new pads removes them, then you'll be fine.

If not, you won't.

I have occasionally performed "the process" with my stock pads when I sense a little pulsing starting to occur. I would suggest you do that with your existing pads before installing the new ones, then bed those in.

When I say "the process", I just brake hard on a freeway exit after getting up a little speed.
 
Same answer as the threads you couldn't find: cementite will kill rotors. So, if bedding in on OE rotors that only have deposits but not cementite, you'll be able to keep using the OE rotors. From all I've read on this, you can't necessarily tell if you have cementite (hard spots that wear slower than the softer areas) just by looking at rotors on the car. I like @eflyguy 's suggestion to just do a rebedding with what you've got and see if the shudder goes away for a while. If it does, then your rotors are fine. Cementite does not go away. The rotors are trashed.

I just put those girodisc pads and did the bedding in process today. Got some smoking after at the end :) will see if that fixed things it does feel better but will find out after a few more high speed scrubs.

Like you I'm going to skip the rotors for now if I can. I've had new rotors pads replaced last year by kia and started to get the gritty vibrations again which over time ove gets worse.

Awesome thanks guys! I'm gonna rebed the oem pads and make sure the rotors are good then switch to the girodisk and properly bed those as well. Appreciate it! Let us know how it goes for you Bonzai...hope it works out!

I can't say enough good things about the girodisc pads I'm finally able to drive and enjoy late braking. God I missed those days and didn't realise it!
Best mod to date and will swap out the rotors if I need to but doesn't look like it yet

Funny. My stock pads are able to lock all four wheels. At least, until the ABS kicks in.
 
Yea agree no shortage of stopping power but once I get the vibration and pulsing it's not what I like from the car so tended to hold off in heavy braking. Not exactly practical to clean up the brakes (had to do this so many times!) and could not rely on the stock pads to feel as they should.
 
Will agree with Bonzai. The aftermarket brakes don't stop the car any quicker, but that hesitation of "Oh god, I really don't want to have to do the bedding thing again" is real.

As to the original question: I've got 27k miles on my Stinger, and have had to bed the brakes 6 times. The first time, it fixed the car for 5k miles, and each successive "fix" lasted less and less time. If you're just noticing it for the first time, just doing pads will probably be fine. If you've got a chronic shaking problem, I would replace rotors too.

About 1k miles back I decided that I was tired of the stock garbage, and ended up with R1 Drilled/Slotted rotors all around. Girodisc magic pads in the front and stock pads on the rears, as they don't take nearly as much abuse. Car feels much better to drive, and I don't have to worry that canyon carving will turn into another day of trying to find space to bed the brakes again.
 
Reporting back after a few days with the new pads..better but not perfect, the crappy feel did come back just not so bad.

Brakes work fine but not silky smooth like I've had in the past so looking at the STOPTECH PERFORMANCE PREMIUM rotors anyone have experience with these..

The caliper bolts are on nice and tight I wasn't able to get it off when installing the pads, luckily didn't have to so i gave up. For for the rotor I guess I'll have to invest in more tools..do you guys use a breaker bar is larger wrench?

That'll do it .. pipe will work from home depot plumbing section thanks! Small wench and bfh didn't work last time. Itching to buy rotors what's the general consensus for normal street use, Shoptech stand up ok?
