Intercooler

How does the the Stinger engine vary in a way that means that it would behave differently in this regard? Are the basic principles of forced induction ICEs somehow different on a Subaru and a Kia?

The level of improvement from an aftermarket IC is based on how efficient the stock IC is and how efficient the new IC is. It’s beyond the basic principles of ICE engines.

You can’t say I put a T8 turbo on my car so all turbo upgrades produce huge amounts of power.

The efficiency of the intercooler then drives how cool they make the charge air before it enters into the combustion chambers.

How efficient do we believe the stock intercooler is, and how efficient do we think aftermarket intercoolers are?

I had assumed that an after-market intercooler would be more efficient than stock. Is this not the case for the Stinger?

No, but I can say that when I put a more efficient intercooler on my car, it improved performance, and that this should translate to other cars as well (if you fit a more efficient intercooler to any car, it should provide more performance).

I have an IC to install, and have collected significant data from stock intake air temps under various conditions to compare to. It's very complex, not at all what I had expected, and I look forward to trying to decipher the results after install. Unfortunately I've had personal issues to deal with, but also hope to get my car on a dyno for some detailed before/after numbers. Just life getting in the way.

Sorry to hear your personal issues.. wich FMIC are u getting? Cant wait to see results! I might be getting AP but trying to figure out if the ic cold pipe from cx/up mighy be better option

So one thing I have been thinking about. If we upgrade to a BIGGER intercooler, doesn't that mean that the boost pressure will be lower due to the increased intercooler internal volume? Wouldn't that rob the engine of power? Or does the ECU somehow maintain the same boost level? Sorry for my ignorance, just wondering.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

A larger IC will increase boost lag. However the change for pretty much all IC available is minor at worst. You’re unlikely to notice it at all.

The answer is simple, it will still reach the same pressure (PSI) but it will take longer as there is more volume it has to fill. Again on our cars it won't really be noticed much.
