• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Intercooler upgrade warning AUS delivered Stingers

In conclusion to this journey, I've put the modified OEM Intercooler back on and I'm walking away from after market intercoolers.

Just prefer the the stock set-up overall so if there's anyone in Syd whos after a near new VR Intercooler, let me know.

Will post it in the for sale thread also.

No worries at all.

Before you push the button, check that yours / the latest version don't have those vertical supports ( you can just look in the front ).
IF you do have them, you'll have the same issues as me but maybe worse.

If you do have the supports, I hope you're planning on doing the install because a shop will make anything fit but it won't be good !

I've seen some of the jobs shops do to install kits and it makes my skin crawl.
So finally got the Mishimoto FMIC installed and yes you are correct you can feel the weight difference. Does it bother me? Not much but completely understand if someone that is sensitive to it similar to you then yeah it might bother other folks.

The Mishimoto definitely works cause it keeps IAT low. Granted we are in winter technically in California right now I know the upgrade will be well worth it once summer hits and I am in stop and go traffic. So far the addition of the Mishi seems like it will work but still will reserve judgment come summer time.

As you mentioned before hitting corners at a high speed with this FMIC is still possible but that weight difference and confidence with the OEM is better. But heat soak will be a thing so I will still take the bigger FMIC. Hey on the bright side maybe I can extend the life of the tires of not driving like a mad man all the time now lol

Nice. I think the Mishi kit is the best balance of the coolers on offer for general use.

Did you install it or watch it getting installed? Just curious if your car had those front supports?

I had it installed I was not confident in installing the Mishi. But when I installed the snorkels I did not have the supports like you. So makes me wonder if that is only for Australia?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Must be in Aus delivered cars only..... Go figure.

Probably some reinforcement to scoop up Koalas.

And it isn't just the uprights. The horizontal member is completely different. Mine has a little lip attached to the IC, whereas yours has a separate piece.

Actually we have the same intercooler lip but it sits behind and under the bolt on lip on the uprights.

Strange how you don't have the pedestrian impact strip either....

Ah, I see. The front is quite a bit different. It must be crash test standards.

installed my mishi one ages ago, easy install and functions great :/ got it for $950 brand new as well due to a pricing error.

Looks like the UK has the same braces as us in Oz.
check out these Airtec coolers for the Stinger. Braces like ours.

So it looks like the U.S. / Canada market are the only ones that don't have them.

Still would like to know what they're for.....
My only guess so far is to keep the lower section of the front bumper from moving back at speed (?)
It probably has something to do with pedestrian safety but I don't know how.

BTW, that cooler looks identical to the VR one. Only thing is that they give you new mounting brackets to reduce or negate the need to grind the vertical supports to make it fit.

yeah but they werent used for anything so i just bent them out the way, slipped in the intercooler and bent them back.
Got any pics from the install ?

I really didn't think it would fit in there and go back together seeing as how far forward the front of the cooler would sit from the mounting points.

Cut them off?

Like I said in my first post, with a grinder, you can make anything fit ;)

On a side note Devin, I noticed in the pic you posted of your naked front end ( talking about the car here ) that the horns are mounted differently from my 2020 to your 2022. I wonder if that's why the newer Stingers are having horn failures ?

Wait a second, I never sent you those pictu...

Oh, my car!

Huh, they are rotated ninety degrees. I never noticed that.

Came across your post yesterday and it fits my situation perfectly. I have HKS plugs, eibach F&R sway bars, snorkels, and an intake. Waiting for MBRP to release their exhaust for the 22 models. I was about to hit buy on the Mishi FMIC when I saw this post. I have an AWD GT2 and live in SC, hot and humid in the summer.

I was wondering about the weight of the mishi effecting handling and overall feel of the car. That bigger weight up front, far from the center of gravity of the car, seems like it might add to a heavy feel when steering. Straight line no big deal, but what about cornering and everyday use?

Your post was from January. Now that you've been through most of the summer in California how do you feel about the Mishi in terms of IAT and power?

Any other thoughts you might have about it would be greatly appreciated. Maybe something I’m not thinking of.

I’m still deciding on JB4 vs Lozic. I think Twn2rbo on YouTube will have more info on the Lozic soon so I’m waiting for that info before making my decision.

Thank you

For me personally the Mishi does exactly what it is suppose to do. @General_Vodka was the one that swayed my decision to bite the bullet on the Mishi intercooler. In terms of weight it’s not anything that will effect everyday driving and cornering. You will feel the slight difference when it is first installed but after you realize the weight is minimal and it’s not going to effect your confidence what so ever when cornering.

In terms of power you would have to ask the other members on this forum. Does it help with the heatwave we having in SoCal right now? Absolutely. Are the IAT temps being kept low? Yes. Have I regret my purchase? Absolutely not. I actually floored it twice during the heatwave and there was no drop in power. Regardless idk the little details like a lot members here about the pros and cons. But just know I have noticed power difference since it’s been installed.
