3.3TT Intakes in California

I do believe the recent rule changes give us EIGHT years of smog exemption, rather than the 6 I had with my 2005 Legacy GT, so at least that's something..

Catback is legal but subject to decibel levels. Any reasonable catback should be fine.
Crazy how people hate California exhaust laws, though I think they're definitely reasonable. Growing up in SoCal, I hate hearing straight piped 4 banger Hondas ripping it through the streets when neighborhoods are so densely put together.

Here's a good map. Exhaust Noise Laws By State | SEMA ACTION NETWORK Though California is probably more "enforced", but with such a large population it just may seem like it happens more often than not. I installed my ultimate performance HFC + catless downpipe combo with a Magnaflow catback and never got stopped/talked to in California, even with California plates. A lot of people will say stuff like I did with "well I never got stopped". That may be true, but it doesn't mean the law doesn't exist if it's not enforced. I like your idea of trying to stay as legal as possible. I am teetering with my build but I registered my car in its second year in Nevada and it'll go into storage next year when I leave the states, but I try not to be super illegal about what I do. The tickets and headaches are not worth it.

You could do what I did and modify the stock airbox. I bought a second set off someone who bought intakes and didn't want their stock boxes anymore.
Modded them by Dremeling a few holes into them and removing the mating piece in the front. Sound level increased marginally over the OEM setup so that now you can hear the turbos spool but you can't really make out any Diverter valve sounds.
I've done one round of IAT logs before and after and so far the data seems to show an improvement of about 2-3 degrees cooler, on average, over the stock unmodded airbox (which doesn't make much sense to me based on the design, but hey, I'll take it).
I may make the side hole a little larger later on, but we'll see.

You could take it a step further and put in some K&N panel filters. Right now I'm just using the stock filters.

Interesting. I’ve done this before to my wife’s old Ford Five hundred. Cut open the airbox and it sounded beastly whenever you jumped on it. Took out the intake silencer on her Milan and it sounds great. Would you be interested in doing a quick write up. Taking time to point out exactly where you opened up the airbox?

You can see it in the pictures. A small triangular cut in the front next to the original opening. And a rectangular hole on the side (the side furthest from the engine).
Here’s a different angle of it. I did the same types of cuts to both airboxes.

I prefer the AEM. But who knows if that one ever ends up CARB legal

OOS directly from K&N. Anyone knows if it's hard to get the CARB Decal from KN if it wasn't purchased directly from them?

Seems easy enough, just prove that u bought one. Either receipt or photo of the system installed.

Not for all years yet. Read the EO.
If you look it’s for 2018-2021, don’t know about 2022, it’s legal for my 2019 and hate to sound selfish but….. that’s all I care about

Umm, it’s right in the post you put up that a 2019 is included and that was the reasoning behind saying I didn’t want to sound selfish

You Also wrote, "If you look it’s for 2018-2021,..." That is what I responded to.
I understand what you wrote. But the order does not cover the 3.3 past 2019 is all I was saying. I am glad you got yours.
