Like a huge number of people with military backgrounds, I have USAA for insurance.

I was mildly surprised at an email I got yesterday about safeguarding cars from theives. In this case, slimeballs who jack the car up and cut the catalytic converter out of the exhaust system.

They suggested you have the VIN engraved on the shell of the converter or cover the converter with an additional shell.

I suppose the engraving might be of some use but installing an additional shell doesn't sound so smart. Probably not enough room or it decreases your ground clearance.

Anyone else get this sort of advice? Thanks, Don

Most vehicles that they go after are ones easier to access than the Stinger and have a more valuable catalytic converter than ours for salvage.
Most of the targets are high clearance trucks and SUVs because they take alot less effort than trying to jack up a car and secure it enough to get under them and the CCs weigh more and are worth more money.....just my opinion but I dont think we are the prime target.

Are they offering to cover the cost of taking those steps? Or are they expecting you to do that out of pocket so they have a less likelihood of you having to make a claim. If I had to guess they know a sucker is born every minute so they make those suggestions hoping people will waste their money to help line the pockets of the already absurdly rich insurance companies.

My solution was Ark catless secondaries, those were the only ones possibly accessible to a thief, no way they are going to be able to take the primaries on a Stinger without a LOT of trouble.

This exact reason causes me to have virtually no worries about mine. Potential thieves are more likely to damage my car trying to get under it than they would to any exhaust component after they realize there is not much of value which is easily accessible.
That said, I wouldn't put anything past those lowlifes. They have apparently stolen mufflers and/or resonators not actually knowing what they are doing.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Not only lowlifes, but dumb ones at that.
