I believe the Stinger was expensive to insure even before the rise in Kia thefts due to lack of an engine immobilizer in certain models/trims. Insurance underwriters have all sorts of data they use to set premiums, and the Stinger made all those "bad" data sets a couple of years ago. In 2021, The Stinger was the #2 car model most likely to be in an accident and it was #3 on the list of cars most likely to have speeding tickets.
The speeding ticket source is still accessible (
Car Models with the Most Speeding Tickets (2021) ) but I can't find the accident article anymore. It's been updated with 2023 vehicles (good to see the Stinger no longer on the list,
Car Models With the Most Accidents in 2023 - Insurify ).
When I bought mine in 2021, my insurance doubled (with no other changes besides the car, no accidents, no tickets) and has only gone up. I've shopped around and gotten other quotes, but everyone seems to be in the same ballpark.
