Add some bump to your trunk...
JL Audio Stealth Subwoofer, importshark.com

Also, we're looking for a GT1/GT2 owner in or around the NYC area who might be available to swing by for minor R&D on the Harman Kardon sound system wiring. All we really have to check is the subwoofer output to make sure if it's the same as the base. Please inbox me if you might be able to assist with this!

Love the box! Any chance just it and the amp bracket will become available in the future? I'd rather be able to pick out my own amp and subwoofer choices than have to buy this just to remove the ones included.

Yes we will have an option to just get the box and I guess the amp mount as well. Feel free to inbox me if you’re interested

Or you can replace the subs under the seats for $500. Or just wait and they get broken in and sound great.

I don't have the subs in mine great idea but not really cost effective my local shop can out subs under seats in the wholes that are there in the base system and an amp in trunk for 500 bucks

wow $1760 ouch
It’s understandable if this isn’t for everyone’s budget. There’s a specific application this is designed for, which is to meet a need from certain individuals who cant sacrifice trunk space but want serious bass in the car.

Negative, that was obviously the first thing we tried, and unfortunately there isn’t adequate air space in the under-seat enclosures even for a basic shallow mount sub.

Unfortunately your local shop hasn’t taken the seats out to test this out yet. Sure they can do it for $500, but what kind of sound are you expecting? Marginally better than stock? Well of course anything can accomplish that. It won’t be close to a properly designed box though. At the end of the day it comes down to what you’re expecting though.

So you’re saying aftermarket underseat subs won’t fit under the seat even though there are subs underneath them?

No no, I’m sure you can find an aftermarket subwoofer that can physically can fit, and while a shallow mount is probably required, there isn’t enough air space to produce actual bass. Gotta move air to generate that.

The subs under my seat produce actual bass right now despite the tight quarters. It just may reduce the bass.

Sure the HK system is noticeably better than the base one but neither is going to be close to what this JL setup can provide. It’s all a matter of preference of course. If you’re happy with your stock setup, then there’s probably no reason to look into upgrades.

There are plenty of subs out there designed for small or micro enclosures. Just do the research to make sure the sub that fits your budget is designed to work well in the allotted enclosure space. Using a low density fill like polyfill or cotton fiber fill can fool the speaker into thinking it is in a larger enclosure. And for the risky yet extra sophisticated audio enthusiasts you can use an aperiodic membrane and vent the speaker to the exterior and then the size of the enclosure does not matter.

FYI I built this car with subwoofers up front in 1990. To my knowledge it was the first car on the planet with dual upfront subs and they actually ran in true stereo not mono like today’s subwoofers.

$1760?

Absolutely ridiculous. :lipsaresealed:

Lol not really...go price out what a shop would charge to build a setup like this. That’s about $3-5k easily. Also check out how much JL Audio Stealthboxes run after everything is pieces together. Same exact price range.

Custom application-specific isn’t cheap.

Soooo...you're saying that isn't a typo?

The sub costs about $150 and the amp about $200. I've had boxes built for under $100. So the installation kit must be worth $1300.

By the time you spend extra cash putting new exhausts, subwoofers, new suspension new badges etc we may as well buy a Mercedes!

Are there any photos of the subwoofer box completely installed and the trim pieces back together? I'm trying to figure out how the trim would need to be modified in order to use this box. Is it custom? Do you run the wiring, mount the trim, and then mount the box on the outside of the trim?

It looks exactly as your car does now. This box was designed to be installed BEHIND all that (hence the “stealth” description) and not effect the visual appearance of the trunk area in the least. Your dealership wouldn’t even know it’s there.

The function of polyfill is actually for greater heat dissipation and will help with air spring..

The problem with the current factory location is 2 fold..

1. Tactile energy transfer will give away location.. specially if better drivers are used with greater excursion. This will be annoying..

2. You are out of phase and have almost no hope to be inphase without significant dsp.. 1/4 wave puts it at over 3 feet..

AP mats are a great solution, but it’s allot of work to get them right.

All this makes putting subs in the hatch and getting a better outcome a much easier and better solution.
