I know the first reaction is to - well - react! I know. I'd prefer everyone let me do the dirty work - but I know how it is. Nobody wants somebody else to fight their battles...

Honestly Sal I think there is a core group here that feel as much ownership as you and nobody likes someone kicking our door open and screwing with us ..................sometimes we like sending them to you bruised and breathless

Do what you need to, man. I've been in your shoes and know that pain all too well. At the end of the day, forums are not democracies, they function a lot like private corporations do. Rules get followed (or broken), people get bent (or banned) and the whole thing ebbs and flows. I've lost good friends because my duty was to the community and I would not make exceptions for them. It happens, and those people will eventually either pull their heads out, or you won't miss them for long. I think trying to herd 9000 cats may be a bit daunting for any one human being (what's the active daily look like?), and I hope you can figure things out quickly for the sake of your own sanity.

I'm committed to getting things back on track here the way they were in the beginning. I accept the challenge. I hope you will all help me - and work with me - to make that happen. It would be easy to simply continue the way things have been going. Chips on shoulders. Nastiness to one another for who knows what reason. When all is said and done, I'm sure we'd all get along really nicely in a bar each with a drink in hand. I hope you'll accept the challenge with me - to make this the happy place it used to be...

Seriously .............I know this will be controversial , but I think the site has become a tad
"over moderated" and we should allow a more organic approach to allowing people to openly express themselves , too often of late , a few mods hit the GONG and ruin a great flow of opinions ................I've had so many "behind the scenes " messages in the last 2 months from other members venting frustration about mods pulling down comments due " their opinions" .....................I think this Forum has lost a bit of the "fun" from a year ago and prior ...........let the flaming begin ..................always respectfully and in my opinion !

I think one moderating problem is giving the keys to forum members who are fresh off the boat. In my opinion no forum members should be made moderator after only being on the forum for a few weeks. Moderators should be around for a bit to get a better understanding of the community's dynamics before diving in head first. It's kinda like a new immigrant to a country jumping off the boat/plane and being handed a badge, gun, and patrol car and told to go arrest bad guys.

Maybe moderators should have requirements similar to political postions. Must be a member for "x" amount of time. Serves a term for "x" amount of time. Etc.

When things settle down and Sal is ready to assign mod privileges again I hope that is taken into consideration.

Moderators should be around for a bit to get a better understanding of the community's dynamics before diving in head first. Ultimately things will be better and loop holes will be closed. Ideally things will get back to the way they were so moderation will be needed less. If everyone does their bit this forum will not fracture again. You can’t blame anyone in particular for it happening but we can move forward. I’ve lost people on here who my friends before I was a mod. The mods position made me a target for rebuke and in some cases I did make mistakes but I’m only human. With a reboot it would be nice to have a reset and re connect with with them if they are prepared to do that. Sal will do the right thing for everyone I’m sure and if members respect each other we won’t get utopia but we will get a better forum.

There was once tremendous harmony here. This was a happy place for everyone. The only moderation needed was moving topics into their proper forums. But somewhere along the way, I guess things got too comfortable - or something. I would really love to see some of the old friends of yore be good friends again...

No. It's just the same "problem" with a population growing bigger. Democracy, for instance, works really well in small groups; a "dictator" can run things with a few cronies and if s/he is a "benevolent despot" or "philosopher king", things are happy land.

When more people immigrate it starts to get messy. I hope that you don't fall for one of the classic blunders of take-charge personalities: and try to run everything yourself. That results in minutia going unaddressed and peeving those offended by it, and they complain, and you get buried (burned out).

No way... Not considering that at all. That's just not the way I do things. But, for the time being, I need to see what's going on in order to know what to expect from the people helping me...
