Hello! I request some knowledge to figure this out. I have read the forums and I see people are doing Map 2 with 93 octane and HKS plugs gapped at 0.022. Last week I picked up a JB4, HKS plugs, and a catch can from BMS and just finished installing them today. I made sure I gapped each plug to 0.022 ~ 0.023. I removed the intake manifold and replaced the oem plugs. I filled the car up with 94 non ethanol fuel. Keeping the JB4 in map 0 just to make sure the car runs properly I ran the car about an hour and did a 3rd gear through 4th gear pull. It seemed slower than normal. I checked the log and everything seemed fine so I went to map 2. I did the same pull as before. It felt way faster but when I checked the logs I am seeing Ign 2-6 are way way too high up to 9. Yikes. I attached the logs for both runs. Any idea what could be the issue?

Mods are the hks plugs gapped at 0.022, ingen intakes, and the catch can. Temp out was 70F.

After searching through the forums for the past couple hours I am going to try unplugging and replugging all the plugs in the engine bay. I am also going to try and update the JB4 unit. Another note to add, I had the battery disconnected the entire time I was working in it.

Don't take my word for it since I'm not a pro at this and all my knowledge is from just reading the forums, but when you reset the ecu the ign timing is generally all the same/pretty consistent, assuming it doesn't need to retard timing any further. Don't believe it's bad gas cause usually ign timing is inconsistent across the board if it is.

No that doesn’t look that great at all does it. I’m going to say fuel. Burn it up, switch brands to a premium 93, reset the ECU and try try again. Do you have access to E85?

I unfortunately do not have access to 93. I went to a renegade performance fuel pump that sells 94,97,and102 octane gas. I can grab some e85. 4 gallons of e85 and then top it with 91 right?

I do 20 litres E to 40 litres 93. So thats like 5 gallons E to 10 gallons 91. Sounds like maybe the renegade 94 wasn’t as advertised

I drove 100 miles today to burn 200 miles of range to get rid of the "94" gas I had. I got down to 15 miles of range and went to a different station and fueled 4.95 gallons of E85 and then topped the tank with 91 non ethanol which was the highest octane they had. I drove home and unplugged every plug in the engine bay and replugged them in, updated the JB4 to JB4_P21_KIA_24_T10, and unplugged the battery and let the car sit for 30 mins. I came back and did a pull in Map 0. Everything looked fine so I went to Map 2. Way more power all the way through the gears and Ign 2-6 looked fantastic 0.8 max. I think I'm good to go! Thank you playerbase and cncBilly for your help!

Keep in mind that "94 octane" is more like 91 octane... And sometimes closer to 89. The fuel situation in Canada isn't good.

cooking with gas now! Enjoy the ride.

I was looking for this answer. I got a 4.4 0to60 with 91 on map2 and then put 94 and did a 4.7 I was confused on why. Feels like I should just do 91 octane and map2. I live in small town in Canada. Our petro Canada 94 seems like garbage. Is it safe to run map 2 on 91?

safe, probably yes, but you will just be pulling a lot of timing. Better to run Map 1 if you can only do 91 octane. But take a log and post it up, map 1 and 2. if it looks bad no point in running it.

Thanks for the info. These 2 runs were a map 1 and map 2 on the "94" the 0 to 60 were 4.9 and 4.7 half a tank I have the bms intake. plugs gapped .022. Hopefully I attached these right . The timing was all over the place. I will have to burn thus fuel and do some 91 runs. I will do a 3 gear pull today also and post it
