If you want to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you won't use wireless charging anyway

Plugging my phone into a USB "charges" - "technically" - but hardly at all. I'm going to guess that wireless chargers are going to charge even less... I get that wireless charging is nice but I'm one of those old farts that can't fathom anyone caring at this point in the game. In a few years I'm sure wireless charging will work much better - and we'll be able to connect to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly and charge, wirelessly, at a meaningful rate - simultaneously. But for now - I just can't see it as being a big deal. That's just my personal opinion.

I respectfully disagree. Wireless charging in the Kia is good now. Plus, all the Apple loyalists have the option as OEM for the very first time. Kia could have taken advantage of that fact for very little (if any) financial penalty.

When you connect a smartphone to the USB port in your Kia it detects it as a data connection. Kia uses USB 1.0/2.0, so that limits the charge rate to 500 mA. Way too slow to keep up with the full functionally of AA/ACP without crushing your battery life. Wireless charging is much faster, see below. This really isn't a "who cares" Kia took it out. It is a Kia uses old USB tech (3.0 would get you to almost an amp) AND they removed a way for owners of some smartphones to have a work around.....just in the US, were you can find it on cheaper Kia models.

Although my guess would be that even if we got the wireless charging it would be the old version that only supports 1 amp..

It is 5 amps (or 5000mA) for Kia wireless charging. Not quite "fast charging" (I think some android phones can handle 10 amps and Apple looks like they will go with 7.5 amps for theirs). But MUCH better than your average car USB port. And it sure beats messing with cables and adapters.

Plus, the Stinger would have reminded you that your phone was on the charger when you turned the car off so you don't forget it.

I will give no quarter for any of this decontenting shenanigans.

1) if your usb does not charge faster than that it's because either your motherboard sucks or you have the default windows driver's installed that don't support high power usb. My PC will charge my phone from empty to full in a about 3.5 hours. Not near as fast as when I use a Qualcomm quickcharger but faster than hardly at all. I can even configure it so it will charge my phone with the PC off.

I'm only referring to the USB charging in the various cars I've used it in. I've never had a reasonable charge in any car.

The Qi standard supports 5-15 watts, so I'd say yes, in theory. Phones have varying hardware to receive, though. Apple chose middle of the road 7.5W, but many Androids run at 10W. [source]

Interesting. Most cars don't have wifi capability at the moment. I think more have bluetooth. I could be wrong. But more and more cars are getting both. I mean if my Accord has both in 2016, I have to imagine almost all the luxury cars have them...
