So I asked if they or Kia are running any lease cash or lease specials. (Knowing they are this is what they respond with)

"I apologize for the delayed response, I just got your email regarding the lease specials. While we do have some great lease specials right now, they do not apply for the Kia Stinger at this time ( the vehicle was only just released after 7 years in the making) if you would like a custom quote I would be happy to provide one for you. I just need to know the terms you are looking for I.E. 36 months 12k miles, money down, trade in etc. Let me know what works best for you and I'll get you our best lease price. If you'd like I can set you up with a VIP appointment to test drive the vehicle. We are open Monday through Friday 9am-9pm and Saturday 9am-6pm. I can be reached at this email address as well as the phone number listed below. Thank you for choosing Route 23 Kia and we look forward to hearing from you!
Best Regards, "

No response is required. The message from the sales rep says all you need to know about buying from that dealer.

Although if I had lots of extra time, I'd be tempted go test drive the car, ask a bunch of stupid questions, and act like I'm some gullible schmuck who would pay whatever the sales idiot offers. Really get their hopes up that they're about to land a whale. Then I'd tell the doink the price and terms I just got from - ANOTHER DEALER!

That is either ignorant or dishonest. Avoid either one.

I would send him a and the gm a copy of the Kia web site that shows the lease cash via email and let them know they just lost a sale and should learn before they speak..

Link?

this lady has actually been kind of disrespectful to me in previous emails. I like this option haha

I could be wrong but I think this is a simple misunderstanding. We don't refer to lease cash as a lease special. A lease special to me is our super discounted ad specials for leases. Like an Optima Hybrid for 149/mo with $0 down.

Doesn't sound like a misunderstanding to me.

Sounds more likely that the salesperson was either ignorant or deliberately being deceptive. They could have been testing you to see how much you know and how much they can push you around.

A decent salesperson could have asked you a couple of questions to clarify what you were asking about. Should have been easy to sort out in about 20 seconds. Instead...

Salesperson: "You asked whether we're running any lease cash or lease specials. Since you didn't use the exact magic words about the "KIA lease cash offer", I will tell you that we aren't running any "lease cash specials" on the Stinger.

If you don't blindly believe their BS, this is often followed by the ham-handed tactic of becoming condescending and disrespectful. Some sleazy auto dealers teach and require their salespeople to use these kinds of techniques.

@jrhodes87, I hope that you have moved on and can find a more reputable dealer and salesperson.

How can you say it is bs when he was offered a quote but never followed through to get one to see if the lease cash was included? You're chastising a dealer when they haven't done anything wrong (yet). I don't consider lease cash a special in any way whatsoever. Everybody gets it when they lease a car.

If you ask about my lease specials I will direct you to our page with the discounted cars on lease special.

It would be a 20 second sort out if OP sent the dealer the mileage, term, and trade in like they asked so they could send him a quote and he could see if the lease cash is included or not, no?

There certainly are honest, helpful and reputable salespeople and dealers. I made the effort to find one and happily bought my Stinger from them.

Unfortunately, there clearly are other, predatory salespeople and dealers who look for uninformed customers to soak.

@jrhodes87 was actually there - if they had a clear indication that the salesperson wasn't going to treat them well, they had every right to look elsewhere.

Flowery emails like the one @jrhodes87 received are typically based on canned templates written by the sales manager or the dealer group's regional marketing staff. When those are accompanied by verbal communications that are less respectful, that's a clear warning sign.

The majority of dealerships are not predatory these days. The internet makes that nearly impossible. Having poor customer service is one thing, but don't accuse this dealership of being predatory when I can almost guarantee it was only a misunderstanding.

If @jrhodes87 didn't like the salesperson he is a 30 second email from getting a quote that he can use to shop elsewhere with another salesperson that treats him with better customer service. He never has to talk to them again aside from sending the quick info they asked for to be able to give him a quote.

Is this Route 23 Kia in NJ? Do NOT go there. Dishonest people who don't really know what they're talking about. When I was looking for my base GT model, I was told over the phone by "Emily" and her two managers that, "there are no base GTs on the road, they're not even being made yet". A simple inventory search on Kia's website would show that was a lie. I went to Liberty Kia in Ramsey the next day and got my base GT at an incredible price.

Avoid Route 23 Kia.

Well this email was from Emily lol

Yikes I looked at their website and even their real lease specials are advertised pretty misleadingly. Hanlon's razor loses this one.

Not to hijack this thread, but speaking of upstanding dealers, how did your shindig go last night? :)
To be 100% honest it was a bit of a letdown but we were very happy with how everything came together to show we're able to pull it off.

We had about 60 RSVPs and only about 10 of those showed up. That can be expected when it's a Tuesday, raining/snowing, and freezing outside though. I think the event would have been way better during the summer! I hope this event wasn't too much of a bust the boss is afraid to do another.

The few people that did show up had a great time. The 2 drink limit got ditched thanks to attendance and we all made the most of it ;)

I've worked on some teams at work that have set up a lot of customer type meet and greets or shows. It seems counterintuitive but they way to get people to come is to charge for it. Whenever we've done free ones we get a lot of RSVPs and then no shows, when we charge, even a really nominal amount, we get less RSVPs but a way higher attendance rate.
We've also learned the key to charging is make it only like 15 or 20 bucks and have a raffle where you give away some awesome prizes..

Nice reference to Hanlon's razor. I generally agree with that philosophy.

What does Hanlon's razor suggest for dealing with behavior that's rooted in stupidity and malice?

That would be cool, we could buy some awesome door prizes with the registration fees. Like I said I think it would be a way different event in the summer too - we could cook out and have people all around the dealership as opposed to stuffed into the showroom. It was a pretty miserable day yesterday, the weather stations were telling everyone not to leave home.
