STEERING WHEEL EMBLEMS ARE AVAILABLE HERE!

Disclaimer: DON'T DO THIS. If you do, you're doing so at your own risk. There's a potential explosion risk involved with tampering with these parts. Furthermore, you have the potential of installing the parts incorrectly rendering your airbag inoperable or ineffective during a collision. Again, do not use these instructions to change your own airbag...

Here is how a professional might disconnect the airbag from his/her steering wheel:

1. The individual would be sure to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery
2. They'd push the pin on one side and the airbag would pop out about 1/4 of an inch on that side
3. They'd push on the pin on the other side and it would pop out as well.
4. They'd push the last pin on the bottom hole and the airbag would fall into their hand.

They'd use a flathead screwdriver with a notch - like this:

The question above is in relation to removing the badge off the steering wheel not how to disconnect the air bag ??

Can someone provide a correct answer and were can u by an “E” Badge for the steering wheel?

Has anyone done this? Tips/Tricks?

Removing the badge from the steering wheel I’m referring to.

Tim, jumping to conclusions and dictating what others should do is not a great start to the forum!

I'm actually removing a badge that the dealer put on and putting a Kia one back on!

Because I want to remove the badge. I paid for the car and last I checked, this meant that I own it. I’m not a product fanboy who wants to run around telling everyone “look at my Kia, I’m so proud” whilst welling up with tears. It’s a CAR!

I don’t like the look, the feel or the content of the badge and want it gone, as is my right to do so.

I installed the peel and stick classic K. Not totally happy as it lives above and not flat as the OEM logo does. I’d replace it if I could just safely remove the logo and apply the replacement in that slot. I think there are tabs holding in the original. I don’t want to just randomly pry it off and damage the cover of the horn airbag shroud. It will just have to be this way until a proper replacement is designed with instructions.
The odds of triggering an airbag without massive force is extremely low.

There's nothing you could do to the cover to trigger the airbag, but messing with the wiring trying to disassemble could.

That said, I've had "flying K" overlay decal on (my sorento) for 4 years and although I wished it looked a little more "factory" when I put it on, it hasn't bothered me since..

welp I ordered the decals ....see what it looks like, Might just throw them away,,,,from china dirt cheap.

If you got one of the one Sal sells, it will be very nice.

I doubt it, It's thru flea bay, 12 bucks shipped for all 7

I don’t think I’d be applying those to my car. There’s a reason the badges here cost what they do, except the GT for the mode dial, they are well constructed badges. The GT is just crazy priced, not bad quality though.

ya get what ya pay for; wouldn't be the first 12 bucks I threw away, you should see my at the track!! lol

I’ve had my share of eBay fails. No worries. The Loden badges look like they belong on a car. I’m not even crazy about some of the bee stickers I’ve seen used. On a $50K car!? Not for me.

I just removed the Kia badge from my steering wheel. Took me 20 minutes.

I’m replacing with the K badge from the K8 Stinger store here: Kia Stinger 3.0 K Emblem Sets

There are removal instructions posted there that I followed but I’ll summarize below.

To remove the badge:

1. Open the engine fuse box and pull the horn fuse. Consult your owners manual for its location. It’s a 20 amp fuse and the fuse puller tool is in the engine fuse panel.

2. Apply painters tape around the outter edge of the Kia badge you’re removing. Ensure the tape slots under the Kia badge as far as it can. This will help protect your wheel as you remove the badge.

3. Use a fine flat edge screw driver wrapped in electrical tape to pry the top of the badge out of the wheel. It is held in with metal prongs that are sunk deep into the wheel. You’ll think you aren’t accomplishing anything but continue working away at the top of the badge until it begins to separate from the steering wheel. I found a prying/twisting motion worked well. The Kia badge is not salvageable so don’t worry if you destroy it!

Note: I tried using plastic trim removal tools to remove the badge but they’re not strong enough. Use a screwdriver!

4. Once the top prongs are free, begin prying the bottom prongs out. These should pull out much easier now that the top is free. You may be able to ease them out by hand.

5. Remove the painters tape. Smooth out any imperfections using the screw driver around where the prongs were under the Kia badge caused by its removal. Fit the new badge using the supplied double sided tape. Insert the horn fuse.

I’ll post photos of the old and new badge when my new one arrives.
