I have a 18 STINGER GT2 with basically all of the mods I could think of except for E85. But do have…(JB4,downpipes ,oil catch can, high flow cat,MBRP exhaust. I know about the E85 Butt t the car is my everything day driver so didn’t want to have to have to worry or go through preparing mixtures n all even though I could just grab some Bigger containers but decided ide rather just keep it to pull up 93 gas BUT still undecided if it came down to it. Ok then I have one one Tuner saying METH which I posted the question about that and got the answer I was looking for…NOT!!! Then I have this other Tuner I found claiming the JB4 isn’t SAFE to UNINSTALL IT and he will install his “30 year experience Tune” that will give me the more horsepower I’m looking for SAFELY where I posted a question here about about him saying to uninstall the JB4 cause it was not good for the car and got the answer I was looking for…NOT!!!

Ima a stock guy. I read all the posts on modding as introductions but rarely involve my time reading 'sagas' about modding as they develop. any engine setup like the stinger's is already 'modded' compared to just a regular grocery getter passenger car. seriously the car is a stock beast very complex with 33 computer modules and twin turbos as it is. I get that drivers want to play with more because stock is boring even if it is enough performance 99 percent of the time. lol your daily driver already 'basically has all of the mods you could think of' and your asking the core question 'is it safe' now? did you have a nightmare or something that made you doubt yourself? even the stock car isn't 'safe' if you drive it like you stole it all the time. treat your toy like a daily driver 99 percent of the time and that is as safe as you can get especially modded six ways to sunday. enjoy and stay 'safe'.

Okay, there is a lot to unpack here. First, the JB4 is your safest bet for power on pump gas. Second, an ECU tune is the next way to make bigger power, however unless you wanna mix e85 or run meth, then you wont see gains any more noticeable than what you can do with the JB4. The next is a tcu tune, which wont increase power numbers, however it will make the car shift quicker which will in turn make the car faster. Personally, I think Sxth Element have the best 3.3 Tuning for ECU and TCU on the market right now for these cars. Finally, these cars are very different than what most tuners have delt with, and NO in shop tuning has ever gotten better results than what a JB4 can, let alone what companies that specialize on these platforms can do. For example, I have 10 years experience tuning and building my 427 big block in my other car, but none of that translates over to this platform, where I have 3 years experience and have learned a TON from talking with people here and various tuners that specialize with our cars. I promise you that the guys over at BMS, Sxth Element Engineering, Lap3, Lozic, and hell, even Tork motorsports (Though that last one is a wildcard) would be able to tune your car to make more power, safer than anyone you have locally.

How many failures have you come across on modded stingers exactly??? Or are you just being paranoid?

Basically, the only mod you have for power right now is the JB4. Dp, hf cat, and catback don't really make squat for power and are just for cosmetic sound changes (they are a waste of money if power is your goal). Why don't you have an intake though?

My only mods are intake (DIY) and JB4. I've progressed through the maps and now daily drive on map 5 with e30 blend. I've never so much as had a code thrown from the JB4. I can tell you from first-hand experience that going from map 3 on 93 to map 3 on e30 is a big jump in power. Bumping up to map 5 on e30 is way faster than anything on 93 with the JB4.

I'd run some E if you're looking for a big power jump.
After that get the BMS CPI kit + EK1 tuner + BMS BEF and then run e60 and you should be really close to breaking into the 10's 1/4 mile and still daily drive it safely!

Thank you for that info but I’m already ahead of you buddy i baby my car but just want to get the most HORSEPOWER Ican get out of it so whenever I’m ready to get into it. I don’t even put my car into SPORT MODE much at all where the Tune and all the power is I just want to get the most out of my car without damaging the engine but your right KIA did a Perfect job designing this car to me there is none like it and I have had lots of cars even putting up against my LATE BMW 745I and I’ll take my STINGER first over it all day.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I haven't done any tuning, although would probably wind up eventually getting the JB4. As for your tuner you spoke to who claims the JB4 isn't safe and suggests you install his "30 year experience tune", it almost sounds like the guy is just trying to sell you his stuff. While he may have 30+ years experience of tuning, he doesn't have 30+ years experience tuning a 3.3L twin turbo Lambda II as it hasn't been out that long as the Lambda II without the turbo was release in 2010 or 2011. With the twin turbo the earliest anyone could get their hands on it was 2015.

I'd ask him if you could get in touch with any previous customers he's done tuning work specifically on this engine and ask them what their experience was with his work. If he refuses or he can't provide proof of previous work, I'd be skeptical of his claims.

I understand perfectly this mental attitude. it would bug me to know if my stinger had the all season tires limiter of 130 mph. I enjoy knowing that I have the 167 mph limiter. along with that, I want my all season tires to be ultra high performance 'y' rated, like the michelin summer tires are - actually they are '(Y)' rated, over 186 mph, but 'y' is good enough. I enjoy the conceit of knowing that my tires exceed all demand even if I never demand it. same with anti sway bars upgrade, I seldom use the potential, but several times a week I might take a curve fast enough to hear the tires 'hiss' or even do a controlled drift across a lane. the bars come into play. they are there, but knowing that is most of the satisfaction.

If you hardly ever even run in sport mode, then why be so worried about your engine if you were to tune if further for more power? Some of us run more power than you are and run it hard EVERY DAY as our daily drivers with zero issues. I say take the training wheels off and mod it hard. :p

Thank you man and I totally respect what you say and to be honest have felt the same way from the gut, I just wanted to get other peoples views to see how much or how many people would feel the same way. My original Tuner from the very beginning that put my motor together keeps bringing up the PURE Turbos for it if whenever speaking to him because he knows how I feel about wanting more Power and would like to get the Most SAFE power out of the engine as I can without damage being my Daily Driver!

It seems like you're looking for clear, precise and direct answers.

There aren't any.

If you want SAFE, then keep it stock. Even then, things break. There have been turbo and transmission failures from the factory.

If you want power, then decide how much power you want - or how much money you want to spend (whichever hits first) - and go do it.

It's a sliding scale. There's no cutoff where it's suddenly not-safe. There's no record of specific breaking points so it seems Kia did a pretty good job making everything beefy enough to take quite a bit. Still, shit happens and stuff breaks. Some other cars or parts have known weak points, but the Stinger driveline seems pretty good. Except the recent stuff about broken axles.

A big turbo kit is big-big money, so if you're seriously entertaining that then you're already way down the rabbit hole and, frankly, "safe" shouldn't be in your vocabulary. Just build it and enjoy it.
