Hey All,

Purchased a blue 2022 GT2 AWD from Carvana, because it was a local vehicle and my Wife and I have always admired The Stinger. Only 16k miles, but found an undisclosed defect with the hatch left side metallic trim. The top portion is loose and not attached. Weirdly, this piece of the trim is tarnished but none of the other pieces are. Read its a common issue, but strange one piece alone would degrade.

Contacted Carvana, as we only picked up Saturday and are still within the 7 day return period. They want us to take it to Maaco, but not sure I trust them. And I do not have time to do that before the 7 day test drive period is up.

Lifting the top of the trim, I found and extracted a white clip type thing. From the minimal amount I was able to lift the trim, I see a small headed stud on the frame, and a metal slotted piece on the underside of the weather stripping.

Does anyone have any experience removing this trim piece, who can point me towards how to reattach the top end of it? I did search pretty extensively, here, on youtube and reddit but could not find any guides to removing and reattaching this piece. Partly, as I am not sure what to search for (Garnish, trim, molding etc).

Side question has anyone had any luck getting these trim pieces replaced under the 5 year/ 60k warranty?

I will try to attach pics of the loose trim piece, and the white plastic clip I extracted. If I can figure out how as its my first time posting here.

Thanks in advance

Thank you.

That’s the weird thing the clip is not broken.

I think I just need to figure out how to orientate it, attach it back on the weatherstripping and maybe push it onto the stud.

That’s the rabbit hole I have gone down with searches

Oh, if it's not broken, just remove the whole piece, then reinstall all of the clips, then reinstall the trim please with the clips attached.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Thanks again.

Just reviewed the diagram in your first reply again. Look like I need a plastic trim removal tool. Or I can try to reinsert clip with tweezers whilst bending trim and push to reattach. Either way the diagram is good info in that it tells me this is purely a clipped on piece.

Addressing your tarnished comment. Judging by the pic, the LR door trim still has the black packing/shipping tape on it. No wonder it isn't tarnished. I have to wonder if the other three doors trim pieces are likewise still sporting their black tape. By the way, the tarnish is simple to scrub off with a good rubbing compound. The darkness of the trim will likely be less, but if you do all six pieces then they should match.
