How many years of map updates and real-time traffic?

My experiences with Apple Maps has helped me move off of the Apple platform for my phone. Android auto definitely has more options. Regardless of platform or app, each nav app takes some time with settings and some getting used to. I've been impressed with Kia's Nav and will be using it over Google or Waze for now. Time may change my mind.

Yes, I wonder if Kia licenses their maps from Garmin or TomTom or Magellan because keeping up with map updates is a full time job and expensive unless you have a LOT of users helping to fund the constant barrage of changes and updates. And I know these map vendors also get payments from places like restaurants to be included in the food-search functions. But apparently, unlike my Garmin 760 which has lifetime free updates 4 times a year, the Kia nav maps are once a year and $180 a pop. I've heard some good comments about the Kia nav system so it might be worth it to stay updated. Also depends on whether it includes real time traffic info, detours and such.

Anyone out there used the Kia nav system for out of town trips? How did you like it and what can you compare it to?

One increasingly irritating thing about the Stinger's Nav is that a tone is made at every turn/exit point. I get why it's there, I just hope I can turn it off somehow. LOL Sometimes I'm already in the turn/exit before it goes off, as well. So, it's useless to me.

That's because you drive too fast.

You can, and it's a "sticky" setting that stays off until you turn it back on. Just tap the speaker icon on the map and then the mute button. I do the same for Google maps in Android Auto - no turn-by-turn, just traffic warnings.

I end up using both nav choices, built-in for long trips, Android Auto around town/local trips. At least that's what's I have done for the old Optima and our Sorento. I don't expect the Stinger to be any different.

Sorry, but does that just turn off the tone or the directions, etc., as well?

Unfortunately, that turns off all notifications, there's no way to turn off just the notification pongs.

It's a pong, not a ping? What were those software designers thinking?!?!?!?
