I'm sure a good exhaust on the GT would sound real grouse! Should be standard and not a $2k option/after market option. That would be poo.

Very important. I love my fast cars to be shouty as hell. The videos posted here so far have almost zero exhaust note. The one posted by app_master appears to mostly be sound from the front of the car drowning out the actual note.

Then again, maybe I'm just spoiled. Given my current car has a resonator delete and mufflers that don't really muffle anything.

I want nothing thru my speakers but what I play, which certainly will not be exhaust noise.

It's "somewhat" important to me, but not for the same reasons as the rest of you. I actually dislike loud for the sake of loud, and would prefer it be a little more muted.

As most of the time I will be commuting to work, I would rather have a quiet exhaust. I'm hoping for a high quality sound system to listen to. That is worth much more to me. I don't need the sound of the exhaust coloring the sound of my music. That would get old fast.

Exactly, Jay. Thank you for being the grown up in the room. No offense to the rest of you guys, but some of us need our music!

Exhaust note needs to be strong enough to where you need to reach for the volume switch. Decent rumble too. No cheating with speaker enhancements. Leave that to BMW.

Over the past few years I've really been into a nice sounding exhaust. But something out of the ordinary happened last night. I was at a traffic light and a BMW 5-Series turned onto the highway at the light ahead of me (100 feet away). It took off REALLY nicely. At the very least it had to be a 540i. Perhaps a 550i. I'm not sure. But it really moved. The thing is - I heard NO exhaust. NOTHING.

And I thought about that for a moment. It intrigued me. If I were a police officer, without staring at the car, I'd have never thought about how the car accelerated. That made me feel like with a car like that - and a silent exhaust - I could get away with more "spirited" driving than with a louder exhaust. The car attracted ZERO attention. And there's something to be said about that...

All I want to know now is - was it a 540i or a 550i. I wonder if the 550i is also silent when stock...

The car attracted ZERO attention.

Because its a BMW 5-series. They're a dime in a dozen. Even with a loud exhaust they wouldn't have done anything.

To paraphrase a police officer when I got pulled over in the UK in my Mustang GT for speeding (which is biblically loud):
"If you were in any other car, I would've just let you go. But you're in a sports car, people will complain if I just let you get away with it."

The noise didn't matter. There are plenty of fast hot hatches in the UK with loud pipes and they don't go for those. Being a young male in a fast coupé is what did it. Even with a loud exhaust, cops wouldn't go chasing down a Stinger because it's yet another family car, which aren't obviously racy.

I love the exhaust note from my Corsa setup with a V8 with the top off, but if we're talking about a turbo'd V6 in a pretty luxurious sedan, yeah I'd rather just hear my music. I'm totally against faking engine noise with the sound system, unless I can customize it and throw in the audio from that old "insanity test" internet video with the guy making F1 engine noises with his mouth.

I just liked how the driver had the freedom to go fast without anyone noticing...

A couple of short Vid's of a 3.3 revving with I assume an after market exhaust.

Yea, it I'll bet the guy driving it was in a rush to get home to have a slice of quiche and turn on the world croquet finals.....

garunteed this will have fake noise like in my g80 sport but the good news is u can lower that setting. also i found out a muffler delete is a bad idea on the g80 sport as it sounds ok but the drone is one of the worst ive ever heard(getting magnaflow mufflers installed).

It seems all the brands are doing the fake exhaust thing these days. At least the G80 allows you to lower it. Personally, I don't think it would bother me. I don't look that deeply into things.

Thank you for letting everyone know about the drone with no exhaust. I'm sure there will be plenty of aftermarket exhaust options...

I think a c43 amg type exhaust would work well. To be honest, you would only really hear it past 3-4 thousand rpm. If in eco mode (and simply used to get from point a to point b) any rpm higher than that wouldn't be achieved. Therefore, if you push the car you hear the exhaust. If not, then you don't.

Same here. Fortunately this car has an option for a 15-speaker audio system with 2 subwoofers under the seats! Crazy but awesome, lol
