Finally got around to looking at Intake temps for Jonny Tig CAI with the intake scoops added.
Starting with a cold engine to warm the intake temps were 10-15 degrees above ambient temp.
After the warm car sits and is restarted and air is flowing again it was 20-25 degrees above ambient. 25 at lower speeds, 20-25 at highway speeds.

Curious what stock, DIY with shielding (@StungBlueGT2), K&N, Stillen and Open filters like Tork temps are like. (you can get an OBD wireless or Bluetooth adaptor for $10 and apps are free or <$5).

This is great information and I’m interested to see the results as well.

Those numbers seem a little high for a CAI, but since the JTs are completely open on the backside near the turbo that's probably why they’re higher.

I understand that the JB4 already has IAT included in their App so a lot of people should be able to share this information too. I’ll look into the adapters/app, but would rather put the $15 towards the JB4 and enjoy the extra power if I’m going to connect anything to my OBD.

Any chance you can also share the actual temperatures for better comparisons? Thanks for starting this thread and look forward to everyone's updates.

I thought the temp differences seemed low given how hot it gets under the hood. But i haven't measured before. The Air temp was 50. Looking more closely at the logs the ave difference was 14 degrees on the first drive of the day. Second drive was more in the 25-30 degree range while cruising.

Info 86 F degrees ...its also humid. Illinois.
I have DIY intakes so no shield.
When I was cruising 35-50 mph the Intake air temperature was between 102-113 degrees the faster I went the temperatures went down. When I got to a stop a light it varied between 114-125. The longer i was siting at light the temperature went up. Honestly I dont see the shield making a huge difference if the car is moving. I think the biggest difference will be from intercooler and those snorkle ducts that will allow direct air flow from the grill.

Those snorkles come off with 2 bolts. Then a whole in the radiator shrowd lets direct airflow in.
But seems like even the stock setup is 20-30 degrees.

I've done the DIY intakes and added shielding:

My IAT readings on the JB4 are usually 80-95 degrees while cruising, with the outside temp being around 70. The kicker is that it never goes above 100 while at idle or in traffic. If you're at idle it won't matter if you have a funnel for the intake since the car isn't moving. I think the shielding keeps a lot of the engine heat away from the filters. I know it's not pretty, but that's not super important to me :p

On a NA engine where the air flows directly from the air filter into the intake manifold, I can see hot air around the air filter being a problem since that is the temperature of the air going directly into the engine. Is this not less of a problem on a turbo and intercooled engine considering that intake air running through the compressor will be heated since the compressor likely absorbs and radiates some heat from the exhaust side, hence the need for an intercooler? I wonder if there is much gain from bringing in colder air at the filter considering the intercooler is supposed to cool the air that is heated in the turbo (compressor) anyway?

Does that cardboard actually work ???

LOL im joking hahahaha i might do these all jokes aside if the temperature drops that much....maybe with this mod should be around 20-30 degress.

It isn’t cardboard, it’s heat shielding I got from Autozone. It has adhesive on the back so you can cut it and stick it on anything.
