Hitting Park at Speed

Has anyone accidentally hit the Park button at speed yet? I’m guessing nothing happens but haven’t been brave enough to try it myself.

I haven't but I would hazard a guess that the ECU is smart enough to know better

I have done it at very low speed-almost stopped-when going to mailbox. You must be stopped to put it into P.

Ever since I discovered that I could simply turn it off without hitting the Park button, that button has been unused in my car.

Unfortunately, one has to remember that most cars do not work that way. Twice within 2 hours, I parked my wife's Mazda 3, hit the Stop button and was getting out of the car when i noticed that the car was rolling. Kinda felt like a moron, especially since the car was making a beeping noise each time as I was exiting. Funny how quickly one gets used of not needing to "shift" into Park.

I tell folks that are going to drive my car to apply the brakes before they get out so even if they forget to put in park and leave the car running, it won’t move.

I did this once as well, won't do it again! Pretty harsh stop and back-and-forth rocking..

You’re contradicting the post you quoted. Does the car have to be completely stopped or not?

In my GT2 I'm pretty sure you need to be pretty much stopped for park to work.
I swear that in stopping at the end of the driveway for mail or trash I hit P while still moving slightly and it stayed in drive.
Could be different with the cable actuated shifter, GT1 & below.

OK I took one for the team; I can confirm the GT2 doesn't shift to park and tells you on the dispay to shift after stopping.

If you're crawling and hit the button OR open the door, the transmission will suddenly and abruptly go into Park. I did this twice mistakenly as I was probably in a rush. Fearful that the Parking pin will break off in the transmission.

I was going at most a mile or two an hour and my gt2 stayed in drive.

You’re contradicting the post you quoted. Does the car have to be completely stopped or not?

Like Gferg01, I have had it go into park while the vehicle is moving VERY slowly, once at home when I think I was opening the door, and once pressing the button a moment too soon which coming to a stop at a light because I was in a hurry to jump into the settings that require you to be in park.
