Two reasons:

1. It happens a lot around here. Illegals coming across the border try to fly under the radar, and of course they can't buy insurance without a valid driver's license, etc.

2. A witness said the woman looked Hispanic.

Despite what others may say, this is a growing problem everywhere. Here in NC also, a non-border state. We have had personal experience with illegals driving and being involved in accidents. We weren’t living here more than 6 months before one nearly totaled my wife’s Civic. The guy never even got out of his monster POS truck. Good thing the state trooper showed up when he did or I would have pulled him out of the truck myself.

Methinks you are being too PC and splitting too many hairs. In Realville, illegal immigration is a genuine problem, and it doesn't go away just because we don't want to hurt someone's feelings by calling it what it is.

Of course not all Hispanics are illegals, but the ones who run away when they do something wrong typically do so because they ARE here illegally, have no insurance, and fear deportation.

That headlight assembly alone costs $1,500.

Backstory: Car was parked and unoccupied, and according to witnesses, a woman in a full-size pickup backed into my car, then fled the scene. We have a lot of uninsured Hispanic "visitors" from south of the border, and I strongly suspect that was one of them.

Oh man! That sucks to see a car so nice damaged like that.

I’m from Houston and lived in Brownsville. I know about the problems illegal immigration can cause. It has nothing to do with being politically correct. When you make stupid assumptions it makes you look like a racist prick. Do better.

I have to agree, I find the assumption that this person was Hispanic and illegal to be totally cringeworthy. It could be literally anyone.

What your racist stereotyping does point out, though, is the benefit of allowing undocumented immigrants to get drivers licenses. They're going to drive whether you like it or not, but if they have to take drivers ed, get licensed and insured, the roads are safer for everyone. And maybe you'd have someone around to fix your headlight... or maybe it was a white bubba with a MAGA bumper sticker. You don't know for sure.

My brother works for Travelers Insurance and runs their personal insurance division. He should know and these ARE the facts. If the facts make someone a racist prick then too bad.

Nobody's saying it's not a problem. If it wasn't a real thing then states wouldn't be changing their licensing laws to reduce the likelihood of these sorts of hit and run incidents. Again, if you make undocumented immigrants get licensed and insured, they're a lot less likely to hit and run, this is a fact born out by statistical evidence in California and Connecticut.

People on the left of this issue are not ignoring a problem, they're actually solving it by making licensing more universal. No, the real problem is the baseless assumption that this specific incident had anything to do with an illegal immigrant. They don't have a monopoly on committing crime, not even hit-and-runs. For all the OP knows it might just be an a**hole, or a legal citizen too poor to pay for the damages, or a legal citizen with a record. Immediately appealing to stereotypes just makes the OP look ignorant and bigoted, and if we as a community tolerate that then it brings us all down to that level eventually. I don't like talking about this stuff either, I'm here to share enthusiasm for my car, but I also believe that there's certain things that need to be kept in check no matter where you are, whether it's by the moderators or the posters is up to the moderators.

Damn. I hope you don't need a fender replacement. I just got done waiting over 3 months to get a replacement for mine, though they may have a batch of them made now. Hope you are back on the road with it soon!

Three months?! I am currently waiting on a fender order. The shop was surprised there were none in the US and that it had to come from Korea. There were 21 on order at the time. Fortunately, I can still drive while waiting.

Seems like all the parts come from Korea, on my hit and run it took a while to get the rear hatch, to top it off KIA package it bad and was damage when it came in.

Wow, I didn’t know that, we’re just saying it seems like no stock parts outside of Korea for the Stinger. KIA does have plants outside of Korea.
