Here's how the fastest Stingers broke in their engines

Let me put it this way: I spun a bearing on my STI engine from driving at high load/low RPM/high gear. I only drive this car in sport mode now after trying smart for a couple weeks and observing the behavior. Less than 2000 RPM cruising in 7th on the highway and giving it a little gas to accelerate a bit from time to time resulting in no downshift made me very nervous. I know there's a long warranty on these vehicles and it's one of the main reasons I bought it but if I can avoid having the engine replaced just by changing the driving mode I would rather do that than have extended downtime.
The STI was manual? Auto would not allow operating condition out of the set parameters. So any kind of damage would most likely come from ripping it at red line.

There is absolutely no reason for excessive downshift when your generating 510nm of torque at a near idle 1300rpm

Sounds tricky. Your car probably thinks you're schizophrenic. ;) I would need a demonstration, because I can't picture what you're doing.
I do the same... but usually not at 25... lots of roads here at 45 mph speed limit... so i'll do a "launch mode" but let off around 45 as that'll put me right at 50mph or so by the time the car settles so i'm not super illegal speeds :sneaky: basically just a hard start but not continuing to high speeds i'm assuming

In residential, I often find myself at c. 20 MPH or even less. On my short street, I idle up to the corner. Launches are for 45+ MPH areas: although I must admit that (even yesterday) I tend to not let off until over 50, so that the speed starts to diminish at 60+. This may bite me one day. :D
