When i worked at a dealer 2 years ago, we would have something like this installed on all high end vehicles, its just a failsafe or kill switch to prevent unathorized use. It could be that, if it is they are supposed to either remove it or provide you with the key or chip, whatever they may use

The last suggestion must be it. The dealer forgot that the test drive car had the kill switch still installed. My wife asked our sales rep what he did when someone started driving in a scary fashion. And he said that only once did he have to shut down the car because the driver wouldn't obey. So, unless our OP comes back and says otherwise, I'm going with that.

Who would ever see them? They are completely out of sight unless you lie down and look up directly at them. Even then, you might think that they are just some factory assembly glitch, maybe even normal; assuming, of course, that the device had been removed before sale. But velcro seems a lot more smart way to temporarily attach a "kill switch". This may be something else entirely, meant to be permanent. So the mystery continues.

i purchased a vehicle new a few years ago that came with the same box. i removed it when i got home like you did
