I'm a middle-aged giant, how's that for an introduction! 45, 340 lbs, 6'7" in bare feet, and most importantly for this conversation, my torso is disproportionately long. This aspect of my body especially makes finding sporty cars very difficult.
I currently drive a 2016 Golf R, and I truly love the car. Super fast (with just the JB4 piggyback), very practical, decent gas mileage, and good headroom. Also can't forget about the community - lots of enthusiasts of all types out there.
Although the car is quite roomy for its size, I find myself having some issues with my right leg due to having to drive with my right foot pointing at 2 o'clock on the gas pedal so my foot doesn't also hit the brake. If I had another inch or so of legroom, that may not be an issue, but as it stands right now, I can't quite stretch out enough to avoid contorting myself.
So, I found myself sitting in a GT2 last weekend at the dealership here in North Georgia. Going to try it again, but with my ball cap, my head was slightly rubbing on the headliner (remember, really long torso - inseam is only 35"). Didn't drive it though. Looking to test drive a Regal GS, but pretty sure that's going to be too slow. My R is low 4s 0-60. Don't think the Stinger would be so much slower that I couldn't handle it, as I'm too old to be a stoplight racer, but I do want to have some fun on those mountain roads, and punching it before the next curve is part of the fun. Been to the Tail of the Dragon 4 or 5 times (with another visit next month).
So I'm really wanting the Stinger, but I also love gadgets and tech. Not sure the regular GT (no sunroof, should be good headroom-wise) has enough for me. About the same as the R, but still missing a few things. Lusting after a ceramic gray GT2, but may not be in the cards due to being a mutant. Hopefully this weekend they will let me drive both a GT2 and a GT. I'll keep everyone posted!
