Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. Just got a base Stinger AWD and have had it for 3 weeks with 1k miles. One thing I'm still not getting used to is how the car responds to throttle input. I come from Mazda 6/Miata/BRZ and compared to those cars, the Stinger's gas pedal feels noticeably heavier to push down and also, at initial tip-in, the engine response is tamer than anything else I've ever driven, which makes the car feel heavier and slower than it really is. I primarily drive in Comfort mode but I feel like the response at initial tip-in feels almost the same in Sports mode. Is it just me or does anyone else have similar experience?

2.0 or 3.3?

I am an exclusive sport mode driver so I’d be a poor judge.

I've noticed that with comfort mode it takes a good bit to really get going. In sport mode however, for me at least it is the exact opposite. Very little input from me and it flys like a bat out of hell.

I've become used to comfort for the most part and enjoy being able to relax and not have to be in a hurry.

This was the first thing i noticed about the car when i test drove it as well.
Its exactly as you described it, heavy feeling to the accelerator pedal.
I dont own the stinger so im assuming people get used to the feeling.

Yes the same feeling but I have come from a car with a top hinging pedal (not sure what you had) and we are now using a bottom hinging pedal

My thought is that with a bottom hinge the effective weight felt at your foot is somewhat dependant on where you have your foot pressed against the pedal. So if you are pressing halfway up the pedal then that would effectively feel heavier than if you were pressing the top of the pedal because of the leverage. I also think that this applies to the pedal feel in regards to the response from the car meaning that halfway up the pedal is less distance to push than at the top so potentially more control the further up you press

With a top hinging pedal this leverage action is somewhat negated at least in my opinion

Hi Rocket welome to the forums. Enjoy yourself ok my friend. Lots of things you can learn and do with the car.

I tend to agree with @upsidedown. It depends on your preferred foot position on the pedal. I'm not sure how the pedal is "sprung" but I do know that these are "drive by wire" controls that require two (redundant) potentiometers to send pedal position input to the computer. If you make the pedal very easy to move, it can adversely affect fuel mileage by vibrational changes in the input signal. I did notice that it was stiffer than my G8 or GTO, but I've gotten used to it. On my long trips, I use Comfort mode almost exclusively which does have a very different throttle mapping than Sport.

Upside down has nailed it. I had the same feeling initially because I was used to bottom pressure on the pedal of my SS. Bottom pressure on the Stinger is sticky and stiff. I’ve had to change my foot position to press on the top of the pedal for smoother acceleration.

Thanks guys I'm glad to see I'm not as mad as I sometimes think I am

Anyway I have found that setting up the seat position correctly makes a huge difference to where you press the pedal. In my case after I had set up the seat for the correct reach to the wheel I noticed after a while that I was reaching with my foot so it only came about halfway up the pedal. After moving the seat forward a bit my foot now sits at a not too bad place further up the pedal. As I am a short arse I would move it even closer but then I'm too close to the wheel with the seat back where I like it and the steering column won't go any further forward so it's a compromise.

Hmm...i'm used to pressing the pedal halfway up...Will adjust my seat forward a bit and try to hit the top of the pedal. I'm sure i'll either get used to it or just suck it up at some point. Wish Kia could have tuned it so you can feel like the car jumps off the line instead of having to really step on it to tap into its power. Now that I think about it, Stinger's gas pedal feels somewhat similar to an Audi A3 I test drove prior to getting the Stinger.
