You don't have a choice in what gets repainted, Kia tells them what they are going to paint. If you could tell them what to repaint, then everyone would go for a full respray regardless if they had problems on their bumper or not.
And unless earlier case photo documentation was in, they'd be billed. But documentation can be addressed upon delivering up the car. The paint shop/dealership has the documentation. The dealer submitted the pics, probably took them themselves. Kia communicated back, "Yes, that is not road damage." They admitted it, weeks/months ago. You have them by the balls. So you tell them that all the stuff that THEY admitted was warranty work gets done. Then take your five grand and your gorgeous car and get on with your happy life. :)

Well frankly I’m disappointed that I did not get more votes in the poll I made up...lol :p:D:geek:o_O
On a serious note, I hope this all works out for all of you. If it were me I would give them the car and take another one in another colour. Least that way you get the current build date.

Kia is repainting my bumper due to chipping/peeling under the driver side headlight.

Update: Dropped off my stinger at the service dept last Weds. Hopefully it will be done by this Weds...

Glad to see others had a slightly easier time than I did. I dropped my car off to have the paint chips documented, one on the hood and under the driver’s headlight. Thy said they would take pictures, open a tech line case and get back to me.

A couple days later they said their DPSM (District Parts and Service Manager) denied the claim and said they were all rock chips. Even the one under the headlight.

I then went out to the lot and took pictures of 3 of the 6 Stingers on the lot with the same issue. They sent this info back to the DPSM and a few days later he approved the fix. Not sure if it’s going to be a respray or a full replacement.

Those cars were painted after the lights were in , which is not factory . Many cars get damaged in shipping and are "repaired" prior to being released to the dealers , I remember a BMW forum issue a few years back where the front and rear bumpers of several cars on one shipment were damged as a result of cars shifting in transit .................any body shop could verify that ....good luck !

@westcoastGT What are the signs that those cars were painted after the lights were in? Curious!

Thanks
The paint lift is the result of masking , no way an OEM paint job has lights installed then masked to be painted , all body parts should be completely exposed to get the proper prime , color and clear coat .................something fishy about this !!

Are you talking about the cars I posted? If so it’s the headlight touching the bumper and causing it to rub. Or when the painted bumper was installed.

Bumpers aren’t painted on the car, there wouldn’t be any paint between the bumper and fender if so.

Also if it was a masking issue it would show up in other areas than in just that corner.

Another really bad White. I wonder what's up with the peeling White. Or is it just a coincidence?

I did the car lot test today and 5 of 12 Stingers had paint peeling under the head lights. Various colors.

yes , the pics of the cars you posted are the ones I'm commenting on . I've put a magnifying glass on my car and not a bit of this issues shows up , I've painted tons of things in my life and I'm virtually positive the issue I sse on these cars is due to masking not rubbing ..............my $.02

Im going to the dealer this week. Last time I went every single one on the lot had the headlight peeling to various degrees. Not something I or anyone should want to deal with on a new car.

Not sure about masking but rubbing is hard to believe when the cars are also peeling between body seams, and around the hood inserts also.

The pics referenced in this exchange are not focused on anywhere but the headlight rubbing issue. Other peeling, chipping, flaking in all other instances are individual cases of paint failure, not a design weakness like the headlight assembly rubbing under the forward, lower corner (especially, mysteriously, on the driver's side).

if these are new cars with virtually no mileage , where does the "rub" come from .....................?? Im sure those body panels were painted after lights were installed , which would not be the OEM process

During installation of the bumper or the shipping process.

Thanks! As an owner of a white Stinger, I want to understand and be on the look out for issues with a great car.

Cheers
I want to clarify that I have only made this comment based on the pics which were posted , I dont have any of these issues with mine ( Oct Build ) and have not seen any here with this issue . Looking closely at the tight fit between the headlight cover and adjacent body panel I think IF they had to repaint the bumpers due to shipping damage , this area would be an obvious problem to mask perfectly , thus if the painter didnt have the tape wrapped tight it would leave a "lip" when removed . No different than when using masking tape when painting your house etc ....................
