Hazardous Material [rape] Fee???!!!

Looks like the shipping charges are/were based on erroneous dimensional weight. After speaking with someone in their parts dept, the updated shipping charge is $27. Still pricey, but reasonable for the overall price. Order placed. Shipping charge went from $123 --> $27 .

Also tested a few other zipcodes including one ~70 miles west of here (dekalb, il). Rate was lower there by a few dollars. Can't imagine how/why given it's the same region.

Anyways, squeaky wheel gets the grease!!

What zip did you use to get $48?
I googled Chicago zip codes and used; 60007,60131,60604,60608,60612... I winged it. :)

I'm not sure I used the same exact parts as the prices are different...but I thought close enough maybe.

Anyway, seems you got it figured out! Very happy...that $100+ madness was...madness!!Capture.webp

And why does the cabin air filter look like a corvette brake caliper? 2018-2024 Kia Cabin Air Filter, Premium S9C79-AC100 | OEM Parts Online

It seems all (most) of these dealers use the same platform for the online parts ordering system. Clearly some serious GIGO going on. I understand using dimensional weight, but at least get it right. The parts guy did mention the same part can be boxed different depending which supplier it comes from. They take the worst case scenario. I don't know. I've never seen an air filter for any car packaged in an oem box significantly larger than the item itself. Usually not even in a box but sealed plastic.

Even if using dimensional weight, the the shipping charges are NOT additive. If you buy qty 1 of a part vs qty 3, shipping does not cost 3x of a single quantity. I advise anyone not happy with prices they're seeing to always call in. Mistakes are definitely made. For the longest time, the wix application guide was showing the 2.0L oil filter for 2.5L. They finally updated it.

I think these shipping charges also include tax.

I shipped a dell 30" monitor in its original box, roughly 33" x 27" x 11.25", #35. Shipping was $60 ups ground in mid '22 to NY, so add another $10 today.. This was a rather large box. Quote below from my favorite shipping agent - pirateship.com .

I certainly hope not. My current domain is registered through may of 2033. It's been active since 2003 or 2004.

All these new strange tld's are problematic. Hard to tell legit sites from fake ones.

Glad you got it figured out. Realistically, though, that much effort kinda defeats the whole internet order "few click and done" convenience. Like I said, I found other online Kia microfiche sites that don't use the same messed-up system and just went with one of them instead.

Anyhow, just for giggles, since Kia.parts is supposedly based out of Gilbert, AZ, I plugged in a Gilbert, AZ zip code, and they still showed $144 shipping charges for two little oil seals. They used to be my go-to online source for OEM parts... not any more.

I thought the same thing with he caliper thing.

Those son's a beeches...always trying to fool me!!

I'll keep the "give 'em a call" thing in mind should I see off the wall shipping prices. I never thought about it being so off base before this thread.

Thank you gentlemen... I just spit my afternoon tea out of my nostrils.

"Please help me understand...WTF is this BS?!"
YES!!!!!

It provides for the seemingly head scratching misunderstanding moment (that isn't) at the beginning...while allowing for the appropriate kick in the azz to make my point that this is in fact not a misunderstanding at the end.

Draw them in and start kicking azz. :sneaky:

Done.
