Hawk HPS 5.0 pads

I’m in the midst of installing Hawk HPS 5.0 brake pads (along with DBA 4000 T3 rotors), and noticed the stock pads have two (what I think are) anti-vibration shims on the top. Called the dealer and they told me they’re there to reduce noise and vibration.

The Hawk pads don’t have those.

For those that have used the Hawk pads (or other aftermarket pads without the factory anti-vibration shims), have you had any noise or vibration problems with the aftermarket pads, more than the factory ones?

I can answer this (I read all the brake posts ): No aftermarket pads, with or without shims/weights, vibrate more often than OEM pads. Only a handful of complaints about aftermarket pads vibrating have been posted on the forum: whereas multitudinous posts complaining about vibration with the OEM pads have been shared. So, the odds are definitely in your favor with the Hawks.

I made the secondary shim fit mine, just bent the tabs to fit. I however did not like how the shim only covered half of the piston. I know it's designed that way to reduce vibration noise, the trailing edge of the pad will contact the rotor first, helping with noise. (see bicycle pad toe set up). I removed it and haven't noticed any noise.

Only 30 bed-in miles but so far so good. A little ‘chirp’ while coming to a complete stop, as others have noticed. Hopefully the OEM brake problems are behind me.

I used the factory shims if memory serves. I have the same set up and it's been awesome so far. Haven't been to the track yet, but I did use the hawks with stock rotors my first two track days and had no issues. I also used the grease that came with the hawks. just a little bit on the back of the shims. I just put this set-up on the car a couple of months ago. maybe 300 miles or so. Good stuff!

A month later and I couldn't be more thrilled with the combination of DBA 4000 T3 rotors and Hawk HPS 5.0 pads! Of course there wouldn't be any warping or problems this early on, but the braking performance is noticeably improved according to the all-important butt-dyno (the only one that matters to me).

As others have commented, there's a little 'chirp' from the brakes in the final moment as I come to a stop. But if that's the only price to pay (other than the money of course) for better braking and freedom from the OE brake headaches and rotor warping, I'll gladly take it!

What's the exact part number you guys bought for the Hawk HPS 5.0?
The hawk site gives me HWKHB453B.585, but other sites like amazon don't list the stinger as being compatible with that part#

Also does Hawk make rear pads for the Stinger? What do you all use for rears?

8 months later and the rotors and pads are performing beautifully. No fads, no vibration, better stopping power. It’s the brakes the car should have come with. Totally happy!

EDIT: It looks like HWKHB453B.585 has a front and a rear variant, but neither have a compatibility list on the hawkpadsdirect.com site.

If you select 2020 - Kia - Stinger - 6cyl (2021-22 don't have kia as an option at all) then click rear, no pads are listed, only rotors .

I also got mine from KNS Brakes. Good folks that you can actually talk to. They've sold me two sets of the Hawks. They definitely fit! Front and rear.

Do you happen to still have the packaging with the exact part numbers? KNS doesn't ship to Canada =/

They are technically not for the Stinger, it's a shared form factor with other Brembo brakes. Try Lancer EVO or Subi WRX, fronts are a 1001 and I think the rear is 2144.

You are right, the 1001 shape is the same as the stinger front pads (though without the little (arguably superfluous) weights) and shared with other car brands and models.

And it looks like 2144 is the dimensional model number for the stingers rear pads, BUT that number is only used on the Stinger and the G70.

That means the rear brake pad shape (2144) is unique and specially designed and manufactured just for the Stinger, which makes me wonder why they'd go to all that trouble. I'm sure there's an existing pad shape and caliper that would work just as well.

Also explains why the Hawk DTC-60 is only available for the Front but not the rear.

I'd love to know for sure what you ran for rear track pads. The KNS site only lists the DTC 30 for a rear Hawk track pad. Too bad they don't show you any model numbers.
I'll give them a call, maybe they just don't have stock or were discontinued. Not a lot of demand for Stinger specific track products.
