Has this happened to anyone ?

Yesterday while driving my 2021 Stinger on the hwy My windshield was hit with a chunk of something. I thought it was a piece of rubber from a passing truck. There was no damage to the windshield however once home I checked the car and found the entire front emblem had broken off the car. That's what flew up and hit my windshield. During my inspection I noticed three holes in the panel where I assume the emblem attached into as well as remanence of glue from two way tape. I assume the tape was used to help adhear the emblem to the car. I cleaned off the glue but now have three 1/4" holes in the front panel . I don't know if someone tried to steal the emblem and broke the three pins only to have the tape holding the emblem on or if the heat softened the tapes glue and the emblem just let go and came off ? Has anyone else experienced issues with the emblem coming off ?

I removed mine and did the "E" logo badge - never hear of it coming off

Yeah this is a first, I have not ever seen this come up on the forums. The good news is you have lots of emblem options for replacement.

Evidently the aftermarket hood badge came with the car when you got it. Likewise, I have never before heard of a badge coming off while driving. Whoever put that on did a half-baked job. You didn't even need heat to get it to come off. Ah hah.

I have ordered a new OEM badge from KIA Canada . I'm curious how it will affix to the panel once I get it . The order sheet only calls it part 15.There is no diagram to show if the pins are actually tapped or threated to be able to secure it, on the underside of the panel

The pins are more there to make it easier to center the badge and stop lateral movement. the double sided tape is what really secures it.

Good to know .
Any prep suggested to prepare the two way tape to affix the best ? I used Goo be gone to remove the old remnants of tape that were still on the car. The area was then cleaned with soap and water to be rid of any residual Goo be gone

You can start with soap and water. But use isopropyl alcohol to clean both surfaces thoroughly. It air dries in a snap too. Something indicates to me that the person who attached that badge that flew off simply peeled the 3M tape and slapped it on.

yep, soap and isopropyl alcohol is exactly what body shops use.
