Hard time turning over to start

I have a 2018 with 100,000 miles. Kind of insane I'm still on the original battery. I have noticed a very slight hesitance on startup so planning to replace it by the end of the year.

Do you use the ISG (Idle Stop & Go) feature?

I also have a 2018 - with original battery. I made ISG default to "OFF" at every startup.

Out of nowhere my 2022 GT1 is having a hard time turning over when I start it. There are currently no lights on, on the dash. I haven't looked under the hood yet but I did open/close the back hatch right before this started happening (no idea if that would have anything to do with this issue, just adding it). I plan on calling the dealer first thing in the morning, but I wanted to check on here just in case this is an obvious issue.

How often do you drive your car, and how far?

I ask because if I know I won't be driving my car for a week, I will put it on a smart-charger because modern cars really put an excessive draw on the battery when they sit due to the computers, etc.

So if the car sits for long periods, and then you do short drives, the battery never gets a chance to recharge and will eventually die.

I usually drive it daily around 40 miles round trip. It sat for about 3 days while I was out of town prior to this happening. Hopefully the dealership will have an answer and solution on Monday! Thank you for your insight!

Prediction.

They will call a battery, and will replace the battery - followed by a slight resistance from the dealership to cover this under the clearly worded warranty as shown in post #16.

We will find out in a few days

I'm hoping they find a faulty connection caused by the autobody shop and try to pin it on them but fix it in the end. I'm good with paying for the battery, just want my car back on the road at this point. I will keep you posted :)

That kind of driving should keep the battery topped off.

I forgot if this was discussed already, but you can take your car to a Battery's Plus, or any parts store that sells batteries, and they'll check by putting a load on your battery to determine its condition. It is more of a true test of its condition versus simply checking the voltage using a multimeter.

So if you've got time this weekend, have it checked, and you'll have a preemptive idea what to expect at the dealership.

Update!
The 4-6 hour job turned into two days. They hooked the battery up overnight to come to the conclusion of replacing the battery. So, your prediction was almost spot on minus the fact that they aren't giving any resistance in replacing it. He confirmed that all connections were in place from the repair too (not sure how thorough they were but giving them the benefit of the doubt this time). They had to order the battery and it won't be in until sometime next week. Getting the ceramic coating fixed Monday from the accident, can't wait to tell my guy he has the jump my car to move or start it! Oh well, things could always be worse.

Thank you so much for all your (and others) insight. The existence of this forum is refreshing in these types of situations. I will give updates once the battery is in place.

Awesome.

A warranty battery is the best kind of battery replacement.

It’s been almost a month and no issues at all, she is back to her regular self! Going to give it a couple more months to be positive but all looks good so far!

That is courteous of you to report back like you said that you would. Thanks. Nothing is more satisfying than making a problem disappear - well, other than having no issues to begin with of course. Hah.

It’s the least I could do for the quick and knowledgeable advice I have received! And I agree, the problem disappearing was definitely satisfying!

I'm still rocking my OEM AGM battery...
2385 days = 78 months = 6.5 years

My cranking voltage was 10.37V (min voltage while cranking) today, still very strong after 4 days of being parked in my driveway.

Resting no load voltage was 12.46V, after 4 days of being parked.

And temperature fluctuations as measured @ the battery were:

Now, that is geeky stuff your sharing. I push the button and listen, that's it. Ima still on my OEM battery too, for the same amount of time - but I don't figure it to the day, lol.

Impressive!

Do you use a battery tender at all?

I'll hook one up to my car if I know I won't be driving it for a week.

I do not. I used to drive daily though, I drive much less now, so maybe I'll run into issues.

I only started my car 13 times in Aug :(

This may be a true case of "use it or lose it". I do frequent half hour-plus drives on the freeway, usually at least once a week. On local, short runs, I take long ways around to where I am going to ensure max operating temperature is reached. That's enough to fully charge the battery regularly. Battery is 6.5 years this month and acts as robust as when new.

^^And I thought I was the only nut to do this!!

Grocery store 1.5mi away. Trip distance to get there, ~5 miles.
