Have not purchased a GT2 yet. I could happen in the next few months still contemplating the next buy. Waiting for the dealer to get more colors in stock. But figured I would join the forum and plan on test driving one this coming weekend. I sat in one at my local dealer and was super impressed. I really hope KIA keeps these good changes coming in their line up.

Welcome aboard, @StingerRich! Thank you for signing up. What vehicle might the Stinger be replacing?

No, I was very smart. I placed my order before I drove one.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I went in to drive a 2.0T and they had a GT that just came back so hopped in, drove it ans while logic says all I need is the 2.0T, I am lusting after the 3.3 twin turbo charged beast!

Unless they make the cabin quieter, no 2.0T for me. If I'm going to pay more than my Optima for a car that should be a level above, it should be as quiet or quieter. Based on that logic, it will be 3.3T

I agree to a point. My 2014 Optima was an SX Turbo, fully loaded. It was a great car that did have a few more options then my Premium Stinger. But I do not feel the Stinger was a lateral or step-down in anyway. I will say that I do miss the Optima, but every time I drive my Stinger, I am thinking "what Optima?". The Stinger even at the 2.0t Premium level, is just such an awesome car, and such a joy to drive. :)

Welcome to the forums Rich!

What color are you hoping to see at your local dealership?

i've seen you mention this alot around the forum. are you absolutely sure all the 2.0 stingers are as loud as you say? because i don't see anyone else on the internet saying the same thing. is it not possible that the 2.0 you drove had a problem?

So far I'm not noticing any abnormal cabin noise in my base 2.0 RWD Stinger..definitely quieter than my last 2 cars ('05 Altima SE-R & '05 Accord) but I will say the factory Bridgestones hum noticeably over rough asphalt. From the tire research I've done so far, this particular Potenza model is known for its volume over rough/crosshatched road. @SEAStinger just posted about swapping his for Michelin PS3+'s and that he noticed an improvement. The right (or wrong) tire can make all the difference in the world. Finally, I don't believe there are any soundproofing differences between model trims, but am happy to have someone with more knowledge correct me on this :)

maybe i'm just in fanboy mode but i don't think this noise issue is the stinger's fault. if it's the tires then that would explain alot. i'd like to hear more from wayne but i'm glad you mentioned that it's pretty quiet inside other then the tires. i don't think the 4cyl stinger got any less luxury treatment like sound deadening then the v6 and i think that's the impression people are going to make from what wayne has been saying.

Was your in-cabin noise experience with the GT the same as with the 2.0? And was it a base model or premium 2.0? From what I understand (someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong--we're all still learning here) the base model foregoes the piped in engine note, but all other trims get it. I'm wondering if those trims above 2.0 base also get some sort of noise-cancellation tech as part of their upgraded stereos? @Kia Stinger do you have any info on this possibility?

One report I saw measured interior sound level at 69db which is pretty good. Obviously the road surface and speed are factors, but most of these reviewers use consistent conditions for their comparative measurements. There is supposed to be sound-absorbing side window glass in the GT's but I don't know about the base models.

If I remember correctly, @Waynerm002 said the GT was more quiet inside. I do wonder about that noise cancellation feature - perhaps it wasn't in the model he drove. I agree that it would be kind of weird for one model to be noticeably louder than the other - outside of engine noise - which the smaller engine will probably have more of. Then again, perhaps it's that noise cancellation. Hopefully we'll learn more soon...

Ah, yes, we need to figure this out as well. Is there sound-absorbing glass in all models? Or just GT models? Time will tell...

I started a discussion about this here: Are some Stingers more quiet inside than others?
