Had to Order a New Wheel :-/

Wow, I never ever had to replace a windshield in my entire life. Sucks about that pothole ;( No idea what ODOT is but they can claim any pothole to not be known to them... How can anyone prove the opposite? Anyway, good thing it didn't go worse with a broken tire.

ODOT is the Ohio Department of Transportation. You are right. They can claim anything they want. To "notify" them, you have to fill out a form, and then it's supposed to be reviewed and (at some point) become a part of some public record.

Around here you can't keep any distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you. As soon as you do, somebody slips into the space. It's ridiculous...

Pretty similar here, too. Although, Ohio is nothing like some of the places I've driven in.

For work, I go to Tyson's Corner, VA, for a week, every month or two. It often seems like the only concepts they understand there are WOT, and hard-stop.

Same here. Quite a few people no longer leave any distance. It gets so absurd, that you can be just you and another on a long straight road, driving peacefully at tempomat 80 and someone is nearly in your trunk. And stays there. Doesn't bypass or anything. Just plain stupid driving. Same with a lot of elderely or incapable people who drive 40 in a 50 zone, despite no traffic in front at all and no danger (lights etc). Then the same people drive into a 30 zone and keep on going 40, tailgating another in front ... or they brake before a green traffic light and go slow ... scared it could turn red. Or the worst idiots of idiots on roads: The co-accelerators. Complete twits, that will accelerate to your speed, while youre beside them overtaking, as they went slower before ... that's the absolut most hideous on my list of total complete daft spongeheads. That's the regular retards. of course there's always the downright psycho in his Dodge RAM, terrorizing a Mini Cooper in front with loud acceleration nosies and nearly ramming him and then does a very riski right by pass, nearly hitting him etc ... not even going there... :p

That whole tailgating crap is the reason I now also have a second rear pointed dashcam.

PS: What's WOT? Wheels of Terror? Warpspeed of Tailsmacking? War of Thimbles? Whales of Trauma?

Get a picture of the car, damage, and pothole and send the bill to the appropriate DOT office for your location. Can't hurt to try. Sorry to hear about your issues.

My state requires bi-annual safety checks for license renewal and cracks are not allowed. Glad I didn't get the GT2 with my history of windshield replacement. Whew!

Same here, warped 2 rims when hitting an unavoidable pothole. $ 1525 for 2 rims, mounting and balance and alignment at dealer. I have the 19's and no one really could beat the wheel price shipped. Was sick over it as it happened to my wife so she calls insurance to see if its counted as comprehensive. Geico says yes. She tells them she wants to consult with me. When she calls geico back they have filed a claim and then said its listed under collision! I was pissed...now my dam insurance went up ! Asked to hear the recorded phone call where we were told it was comp and guess what..,sir that phone call was not recorded.

You seem to be suggesting that a claim against comprehensive wouldn't affect your rates?

That's why , from experience, I purchased tire and wheel insurance from the Kia dealer for an additional $29.00 a month.
Just added it to my lease payment.

Never had an insurance increase on a comp claim.
I have just learned -- the hard way -- that in at least some states, hitting a massive pothole even on an Interstate maintained by the state highway authority is treated as a COLLISION claim, not comprehensive. I live in Maryland, and I've just learned that in this state, any interaction with a road hazard is treated as a collision claim, with all of the predictable issues that brings, including higher rates! Apparently the only exception in this state is a deer/animal strike, which can be processed as a comprehensive claim. Massive pothole on I-270 took out two tires and a rim. I'll be hitting up the state to cover this one.

On May 19th in this thread I suggested for your reference when ever you get ANY new or maybe even used car you must get tire and wheel insurance,
It covers all tire and wheel damage except normal wear and tear.
