So, I'm deciding on whether on not to get Michilin Pilot Alpine PA4s or not.

I was wanting to go from the stock wheel size, 225/40 and 255/35 too 255 in front and 295 in the rear but from what I can tell Alline doesnt come I 255 or 295 in 40 only in 35. So will the loss of 5% on the front sidewalls matter at all?

In the winter you want narrower tires, not wider. The reason is because on a slippery surface you want to have as much weight as possible on the tire surface

And you probably want as much sidewall as possible too.

I'm running 225/45 R18's for my winter setup.

The injustice those rims are doing for your car though!
I kinda like 'em (for winter).

I like knowing they are cheap and steel is so much more ductile than aluminum - pretty easy to bend back into shape if bent.

I know - they are ugly. I'm OK with it.

Lol, it looks like you street-parked your car in Detroit and needed to toss something on just to get home.

How does winter cause your wheels to get bent?

When you live in a climate that can be -25C in the winter and +35C in the summer, the roads gets destroyed, especially in the winter so the the potholes can be giant and oftentimes you can't see or evade them because they are covered in snow. To give you an example; last winter on my E550 which had 245-45-18 winter tires on original amg wheels I had 3 flats, all of them were destroyed tires (not a nail) and I bent 3 wheels that had to get repaired.

My sexy steel stinger wheel....

I have since hammered it back into a roundish shape that holds air.
