GT2 Hood w/o plastic vent mouldings

A "Tyler Durden" part of me wonders if someone on the assembly line had it laying around as your car came down the line and said, "why not?" No rhyme or reason, "just because." ;) My father-in-law was stripping down his Chevelle for a restoration and found a complete San Francisco Chronicle newspaper behind the rear seat along with a build sheet. It appeared to have been placed there by someone at that factory, as the VIN showed it being built in Fremont CA. Funny how folks will sometimes add a bit of quirk to every day activities to keep themselves amused, so who knows? :)
ahhh the good ol' Numi plant. I used to live about 20 minutes from it. it's now a Tesla plant.

Demand an answer from the dealer who sold it to you - they are the ones with the contacts in Kia who can pursue it as high in the organization as needed. If they give you the runaround, email Kia USA directly, explain you haven't had a satisfactory answer, and ask them for one. Make sure you copy the dealer on the email.

I like the looks of it as well (and would keep it that way!), but there's no getting around the fact that they sold you a car missing one of the signature features. That hood and completed car must have gone through several quality control checks - it would have been noticed if it was done that way at the factory. They at least owe you an explanation as to what happened ...

I have a theory - perhaps the one that came on it was damaged somehow, and they had or found one from one of the Korean E cars?

At least that was mild and not malicious. A former co-worker told me once of a family member who worked at the nearby GM plant building vans. For amusement, or spite, they would throw scrap metal in between sealed/welded panels so that vehicles so blessed would have impossible-to-cure rattles for life.

Is the hood, for Stingers having vents, stamped in order to accommodate the plastic insert? Because it looks like the OP's hood does not have depressions for the inserts.

I fail to see the down side when a lucky buyer is sold a Stinger without the most universally disliked fake "feature" that has been universally criticized within these forums. Besides being a better, smoother look without the superfluous tack-ons, he will never have to answer the question "are those vents real?" Thank god the brake cooling ducts have some function.

.. and I'd choose the fake vents, if it was a choice, because I will be making mine functional - for overall engine bay cooling.

You need to be careful about hood mods. Some vents can actually increase heat retention. The MG MGA was infamous for over-heating in arid climates (not in England, where it was designed). The culprits were the two hood vents that were supposed to exhaust heat, but instead created reverse pressure. The factory usually designs airflow into a turbo-charged system.

In Korea the 2.0 and 2.2diesel without performance pack have no hood vents.
This is pretty common to see a Stinger without vents here. ;)

Thanks for this! I knew mine was just a variant — it’s good to know it’s not impossible and therefore a fraud. I’m going to find out from my dealership about the rarity of this hood in North America

Thank you for the information. While that may apply for the korean market here in the USA even the base 2.0 has the vents in the hood. Hence why we are really interested in knowing how that came to be.
