What if you don't have a gt2 with all those extra buttons?

I want the cover! It’s a pity all you guys drive on the wrong side of the road.
Agreed (on both counts). KIA seems to have been on some sort of hallucinogenic drug when specifying the Stinger in different countries.....

um, i disagree with your statement madman. kia, as with all car manufacturers, will put in content that they think will appeal to the mass audience. just because we, as car enthusiasts, want more horsepower, more torque, less electronic doodads doesn't mean joe public wants that. case in point, bmw fans had wanted the european version of the m3 years ago. bmw north america deemed it excessive and didn't think it would sell. they were wrong. ford fans have been clamoring for years for the forcus rs. it was brought here and was so expensive that it hasn't even come close to its sales expectations. ford is thinking of stopping the sale of the rs for next year because the only people who could afford such a vehicle won't drive it like it should and the cost of insuring such a car for the average young adult is cost prohibitive. so that is why kia specifies different options in different markets. as for the closed console, i am sure that they thought long and hard on that one, but figured with all the car buyers who don't pay attention here in the u.s. who would probably break such a lid and the amount of money it would take to keep replacing said console was out of the question. that makes it better for us, we purchase this console lid, change it over, and not have to worry about seeing 3 dozen copies of the same thing. like the E badge, or the stinger script. you can't please everyone. okay, i am off the soapbox.

My theory on the closed lid console is that North American drivers are renowned (and sometime ridiculed) for their love of portable beverages in their cars, and the general preference for multiple and large capacity cupholders. Other markets are not so crazy about carting beverages about in their car - so market planners decided the bigger, easy access open top cupholders were a good fit here, and covering them up discretely for use 'as needed' made sense elsewhere.

I like it because it's different. If we'd got the closed console, no doubt people would be complaining that other markets got the bigger open top cupholders ... :)

Compare the picture of the covered console with yours. Buttons or no buttons - you'll find that the two console covers are fully interchangeable...

+1. the openings for the shifter and the buttons is the same. only the shifter, i think, is different between gt and 1 and 2 because of the drive by wire in levels 1 and 2

um, don't take me too literally however, since you made such an effort.....

In the majority of your examples above you've referenced versions of a car with technical enhancements (M series) or a complete car (RS). I'm talking about items such as the 360 degree camera in one country and not others (and it may well be because from a price point you can't have a heated steering wheel AND a 360 degree camera [don't jump on me if you can - it's just an example]) because that seems to be getting on a number of owners nerves BUT, of most importance to me is the inconsistency of the console cover irrespective of specification.

Either covered or not!!! I will be speaking to the UN about the fact that, apparently the Koreans believe Australians do not know how to operate opposable thumbs and would therefore continuously break any close-able lid.....

I'd get off my soapbox but I appear to have got my head stuck in it :)

ha! i was wondering why it was so tight in this here soapbox. i didn't mean any disrespect. i also get frustrated on seeing different options on cars in europe or canada and not being able to have them here. oh, as for the u.n., don't mention me, there was an incident involving the daughter of some uppity muckity muck and i am persona non grata. or was it grated romano parmesian.

All good - opinions are the spice of life! I'll keep your name out of my complaint.
