Good morning, trying to see if anyone else has had these issues or know how to fix. 2018 GT2 AWD. I have removed midpipes and gone to stock air boxes to minimize any risk of it being a “my problem”

I have a grinding noise I can hear under the front of the car. Sounds suspension or something else (motor mounts?).

When I pull out of a parking lot i hear it but briefly.

When I back out of my driveway, turn the wheel, straighten out. And drive away, I hear it.

Mostly happens when the car is cold and suspension parts are not warmed up. It also seems to be worse when it’s raining.

Dealership said it was the front sway bar. I have had it replaced under warranty, problem persists. I’m taking bit back in Thursday.

Someone mentioned they had their power steering replaced due to grinding, but I don’t know.

For any sound questions, you really want to put a sound clip.

Does the sound change with speed, or just goes away entirely?

Would be great if you could post a sound clip/video. Once yours is fixed (hopefully Thursday) then others may benefit from understanding what the solution to this mystery grinding noise is.

Speed has no effect on the sound. It honestly sounds like a mount or some power steering issue cause its mostly when your turning from almost dead stop or slow speeds.

Yea I've tried to get a clip, but it doesn't always show well. Ill try tonight after I leave work. The noise doesn't last more than a second, its like a grinding as something in the suspension shifts or something.

mine does the same thing! but i wouldnt call it a grinding noise... it kinda sounds like something is engaging.. but it doesnt sound right at all. i have driven my stinger like its the last stinger on earth, so i know its not from me.

its impossible to get a video unless you have a 2nd person or a gopro mounted.

check tightening torque on tie rod ends and swaybar endlinks. both difficult to tighten properly, swaybar links especially since they want 80 lb-ft. are you on stock swaybars? have you had any front end damage or enhancements done? RWD or AWD?

could also be the brakes, but i'd look at the tie rods and sway bars first. if you just turn on the car and turn the steering wheel to full lock, foot off the brakes, can you replicate the noise?

man, i really like my stinger, but there are so many little annoying things with this vehicle that i've never dealt with any other vehicle, where im like man, a tiny part of me wants to get rid of it and it doesnt feel worth the money. glad to know someone else's is doing the same thing.

not to sidetrack this discussion, but my stinger for the last 3 years has been light years ahead of my previous 20 years worth of BMWs as far as issues are concerned.

All suspension is stock, no accidents, 18GT2 AWD. Dealership replaced the sway bar last week for same issue. Had brakes looked at and had rotors turned. I may have them relook at the endlinks.

Just got back from the dealership. The front struts are seized and are putting all sorts of pressure on the front suspension. Latest theory is bushings att under so much pressure they are causing issues. New struts ordered and will be done next week

Do you have the electronic adaptive suspension?

Yes. I have no idea how it happened. It doesn’t rain here much but it’s always dirty.

all this now makes me wonder if the hard jolt when braking, when it shifting into that last gear before full stop, is normal. i cant take it anymore.

could this be connected to a failure in the programming causing the struts to seize up? maybe your adaptive is 'locked'
That’s a good theory, I’ll have to ask them to look into it. Honestly have no idea how that all works together.
