Greetings everyone. I look forward to knowing more about the Stinger (more than just the standard press release) and hope to see one at a dealership soon!
A little more about myself. I'm a 47 year old male, single, and I'm not actively seeking a relationship. Sorry, ladies. I've been burned by this relationship thing once too many. So diner and a movie, maybe the occasional night cap; maybe one of these days I will find the 'one'. Enough about myself, now more about myself!
I've had only 5 cars over the 30 years I've been driving. 2 have been totaled (Neither were my fault), 1 lasted 15 years and never even a fender bender (unless you count the errant shopping cart, of which I have found a solution! Never park far away from a shopping cart return area. No one ever uses the damn things anyway! LOL) until my previous relationship and then 3 accidents, none with me even in the car! Then my Veloster Turbo and now my current car, my Genesis Coupe.
I love my Hyundai Genesis Coupe! I love what Hyundai and Kia are doing by going into the 'sporty' category. The main reasons why I've kept an eye on Hyundai and Kia over the past several years is that they are improving their quality and design and are just not focusing on the eco boxes with wheels they once were. That, and you can't drive down the road and spit out your window without hitting a Ford, Chevy or Honda (or all 3 at the same time!); I love the fact that my car isn't as popular as as the others. To this day, I still get "What car is that?!?!" when going to gas stations, etc.
My first Hyundai was a 2013 Veloster Turbo. Loved the looks of the Veloster from the get go. Glad I waited until the tubo came out. I did a few modifications to the car and then had it mildly tuned. Holy crap! I dyno'd 169whp with about 166wtq pre-tune and 215hp and 205lbs lb-ft of torque at-the-wheels! Yes, there are other VTs with mods that were tuned to about 270+whp and about 270+wlb-ft (When a company advertises X horse power, you can immediately subtract about 25-30hp for the loss through the transmission, etc) but they had a lot more modifications and could support a more aggressive tune than I got. It was a fun car but in the end, the car was a little too light for my tastes and you could feel the rear-end "hop" when taking normal corners, or Interstate on ramps (especially where I am from, heh), etc. All that I researched, rear sway bars were a major improvement but didn't 100% fix the issue, you had to also get this mod and that mod and another mod, all of which I really didn't have the time to do myself but couldn't have it in a shop for any length of time to have someone to do it for me.
Less than a year later, I went for a drive and ended up passing a Hyundai dealership in a town about an hour's drive from my home. I took a closer look at the Genesis 2.0T and the 3.8. The 2.0T was fun and spirited but I hated the active engine sound (that's where they put sound through the speakers to simulate engine noise. To me, it sounded like a whine, similar to the sound that a poorly grounded car audio would make) and that immediately turned me off of the 2.0T. I didn't even bother asking if it could be disabled, I hated it so much. Then I test drove the 3.8 and fell in love with grumble at idle and no rear-end hop! Granted, it's no 5.0 V8 grumble (which I think my next door neighbor needs to ADD a muffler or two to his car) but it was music to my ears, and at WoT, woooh boy! It wasn't something that you could hear from 5 miles down the road, but you still noticed it whether it idled by or zipped by! I just liked the car over all, the aggressive styling, the handling, etc. and so I drove it off the lot. I have no modifications on the car (other than interior lights) and I've beat a 350 and 370Z, kept up with and/or beat, Camaros and Mustangs (no, not the 5.0, 5.7, 6.4, 12.5, 100.45....... models, hehe). Too bad the only other drivers that ever wanted to play were the ones that I know would hand my butt back to me while asking if I was ever going to start the motor (IE heavily modified cars).
The Genesis Coupe has just under 12K miles on it in 3 years (cheers for a work truck!), including a 2K mile round trip to Tampa, Fl. It's almost paid off, I think a little over 6K, so I think I will be trading it in, if I decide to get the Stinger.
I'm a little disappointed that Hyundai did away with the Genesis Coupe and I don't really like the styles of the Genesis brand anymore. I know, they've branched off their Genesis brand to be more luxurious but they've lost that 'aggressive' look to them.
I will have to get behind the wheel of a Stinger to make my final decision but I love the style of the car. To me, it looks like a Genesis Coupe and a Mazda mated and had a child. The best of both worlds; an aggressive looking front end and the stylish rear-end!
